Any modern brand and or paint codes available for the Packard Ivory? Anyone familiar with this color? Thank you
TCP global should be able to mix it. Check their auto color library. Sent from my SM-G950W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You may want to seek the advice from knowledgeable Packard owners on the PackardInfo.com website. They can provide a wealth of information to you.
i like to look at more recent cars to pick a color that looks correct, then go to the store and say 91 toyota bla bla.
Hi, you can always get a new Dupont catalog of “Interior colors” which are flattened colors. Totally enjoy your latest roadster build!! Merry Christmas, Bob
Any automotive paint dealer can mix the paint. They will not have the formula but can get it from the paint company, this takes less than a day in most cases. Tell them you need "1948 Packard Ivory, Ditzler # DAL 80298" and they will find it.
The second page from the TPC Global page has the mixing instructions for lacquer. How those translate now might be an issue. Off hand I can't think of a late model that has what I would call Ivory. You might check 70 Porsche light Ivory Color Codes - Ditzler PPG 81341 Cross-Reference (paintref.com) It may be a bit too yellow though 1970 Porsche 914 for sale near Marina Del Rey, California 90292 - Classics on Autotrader
Very few of these original colours can still be mixed from original codes by the major paint companies. Almost all of the toners have changed so unless they have specifically reformulated the colour you are looking for and have it in their database they cannot simply cross reference old colour codes to new toners. Companies like TCP have gone to the trouble of figuring out new toner crossovers and or still have old toner formulas so they can do it. Sent from my SM-G950W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I searched high and low with numerous paint manufacturers in an endeavour to match the OEM 2-tone colours GM used on my 46 Olds using original paint manufacturer colour charts. There was no suitable residual paint to colour match on the car or panels and in the end I contacted Glasurit, it had modern formulas that it sent to me within days! Baslac is an earlier version of Glasurit so I'll be buying the correct colour paints there: You pay a bit more however I've gone to the trouble to doing everything else correct to this point; trim, woodgraining, pearl steering wheel etc; so I'm not settling for less. Close enough is not what I want.
Yes. The above comments explain that 80 year old formulas will mean nothing to the paint supply co. Your best chance is to get a colour chart and get it colour matched by eye by their “colour matcher” or if you are lucky they may have a spectrometer which will do it digitally. Or the old fashioned way with sample chip swatches that you can have it beside your colour chart. But my suggestion would be to get a sample pot done and trial it on another panel to see if it is exactly what you want before painting the whole car. You can add a bit of yellow or black or green etc to get it exactly where you want it. I was going to go navy grey on my Packard till I found a nice bit of original 1939 “Havana Beige metallic “. I’ll take the piece and see what is really close... I’ve been looking at a Camry and Honda colour that is so close. Once I get a paint chip swatch I’ll put it on my piece of original and see how close it actually is . As an aside I’m restoring several 53 Eldorados at present and the bodies were painted in red oxide primer that is no longer made. I took a piece of floor to the Glasurit distributor and they eye matched it absolutely perfectly. But it’s a topcoat not a primer so they added flattening agent to take the shine off like the original primer.
yup, i agree with many that the old formulas do not always work. just last summer an old friend wanted me to paint two wheels for him, he's in his late 80's, so i never say no. 34 ford tacoma cream, should be easy right? no, i got an old ppg #, and an old dupont # off the fordbarn guys, and my local ppg dealer could not mix it up. many phone calls later they gave us a color that was according to the computer the best match, some late model mercedes. i have to guess the computer has better eyes than me, so we went with it
