Paint help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vinnie mack, Apr 28, 2006.

  1. When I got my '53 Chev it already had been painted with some Flat Black Tremclad paint from the local hardware store. The thing is everytime i open the trunk lid I see the original color and I want it back!.

My question is, is there a way to strip away the top layer of flat black but leave the factory color layer intact?. I was thinking if i could just do it for the roof i'd be satisfied.

    it's the Regatta Blue. :(

    Any help is appreciated.

Try a little lacquer thinner on a rag and see if it removes the Tremclad. Do it on an inconspicuous spot. It may remove it. It might also bite into the original underneath. If it works, you might be able to polish the original back up. Good luck

No problem Vinnie mack. Just please make sure you try it somewhere that won't matter if it screws up so you can spot the black back in and no one will see it.
