I have avoided starting new threads about my build up, preferring to keep adding to my original thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=282490 But I had to make an exception because I'm so stoked at how my paint came out. I just finished it today. It's just a backyard job in acrylic lacquer but it came out way better than I had hoped for. I did very little body work on this car and have even intentionally left some dents and dings in it. I never wanted a car that I couldn't park in the street or walk away from at a run or show. I also really didn't care about the finish that much, concentrating on the overall look instead. All that being said, I am pretty rapt in this paint Pete
looks killer bro!!! kutos for using a different color too! and you can never go wrong with a white firewall
Awww man! And here I was looking forward to flat black and red wheels? That looks real good! REAL GOOD! .With th.at .sweet Nailhead that will be so much fun cruising around in, wish I could make it to the debut but I guess I'll have to catch it on the cover of Cruzin in the future. Doc
The firewall is a fair way off white but I'm hearing what you're saying. Hmmm, tropical turquoise. I hope it's not. It has a fair bit more black in it than that. It's a custom mix so it could be close but I think it would be a bit "dirtier". Already got a black one with red wheels. I started the craze back in about '93. I'd rather see it on the cover of "Chopped" but I guess any ink is good ink.
Funny thing when I read this again Doc. It made me remember why I chose that colour. When I was planning this build I was going to paint the nailhead in that turquoise OEM colour, and maybe paint the body black. Then I decided to paint the engine black and here we are. It was NEVER having red wheels.
THANK GOD....it's not another black one! Looks great! How long will it take you to put it back together? I want to see the whole car!!!
when i read the part saying you intentionaly left dents and dings. I figured it was going to look like shit, but i looks like you have a pretty straight body there. The car looks great, those colors look really good together. Nice work, now put it together and show some pix
Well it should have been done 6 months ago....so how long is a piece of string? I am desperate to have it done this summer but it just keeps dragging on. Here's a quick list clean out, seal and paint fuel tank plumb fuel lines reassemble gearbox sort out clutch wiring upholstery on seat (optional) Finish up throttle linkage basic reassembly of body onto finished chassis (this won't take long. I've done it once or twice already) Try to fire the engine, then start a whole new list.
I like the colour! Nice contrast with the white firewall.Great fab work on the floors, I can't wait to see the finished car either!
I suppose that sounded a bit "ratroddy" didn't it. It was more of an effort not to have it look like a fibreglaas or high finish steal car. I wanted a bit of authenticity to it. I think if you could see it in person, you'd get it. Funny thing. I'm not sure that I'm going to put any striping on it at all. I'm thinking maybe just some subtle ones where you would have to search to find them. I bet when it's all together I'll succumb to the urge though. I'm glad you guys approve of the colour. It's one of those areas where you can get it very wrong if you move too far away from the norm. Hopefully I got it right. Pete
