My grand-daughter's Mustang has the factory clear coat paint. I have replaced the fender and front bumper after she hit Bambi(deer). can I paint over the clearcoat? Thanks

  2. The short answer is yes. Did you use used parts? Or are you talking about blending the ajoining panels? The prep work will be a little different for each operation. I am a collision body man not a painter, so i can't be specific about what grit to use. For the blend 1000/1200 wet and for the refinish 600/800 wet. Someone here will know for sure, or ask the paint store when you buy the paint. Also you don't want to use lacquer on top of the factory finish. Just an fyi.

    Hey,

If you've replaced the front bumper you'll need a urethane flex additive for the repaint on the bumper. If you just shoot finish over the urethane w/o the additive, it will peel in time when the bumper flexes:(

" If '' the factory? clear coat is in good shape you could sand, seal and refinish over it, but you may get into trouble if it's an old repair or a waterborne finish and you're topcoating with urethane. Are you gonna blend into the adjoining panel, or just panel paint this job?
