Hey guys I need a consensus from the painters if one can be had ..... I have epoxy primed, body worked with filler, high build primered(a few times) and am now ready to shoot some paint. The car has a few multiple colors of primer and epoxy and some bare metal.....is there a sealer that I can use that will give it a uniform surface (without having to sand) that can be painted the same day? Maybe a stupid question but I need know.
    thanks

If you've gone through the high build primer to metal or other primer, then it needs more work before it's ready to paint. The final sanding of primer should not break through anywhere.

More high build primer...more sanding...but you might also need to do more metal work/filler to get it straight enough, without having too thick of primer on it.

a urethane sealer. or most epoxy primers can be reduced 10% to use as a sealer

Just read the tech sheets. For the sealers that are avalible/compatible, with the brand of base or top coat. That you plan on spraying. They will list if they are direct to metal compatible. And, what the open window time frame is, for top coating.

Yep, epoxy sealer. Not an option in my book, too much work has been done not to spend a buck or two and seal it up. I use black epoxy sealer under black paint, grey under light colors and metallics. Shoot it and it will be flashed and ready to top coat by the time you clean your gun out and mix your paint. I have used epoxy primer before it just needs to be thinned a bit more.

  6. I ask at the auto body supply store I frequent. The people at the counter know their fecal matter. Often there is a customer around that has some great insight to add.
