THANKS for the Paint Tech! I am gearing up to paint my T under the supervision of a real painter and this has given me more motivation.

I gota thank Overspray, he did a FINE job. When I painted the frame an engine I got more "orange peel" than I wanted. I asked overspray for help ( I didn't want to cut and buff ) on the body parts. He said "no problem and than you can come over and help me with wiring my coupe". So we are swapping labor.

That was a great post, the only thing I might add is If you hold the gun with right hand, be sure to hold the hose with your left away from your body so as not step on or stumble on the hose. Also it gives you control as to draging it into your parts. Like I said these were all very good points.--TV [IMG]

Thanks, TV. That's the input I'm looking for, good basic tips and technique.
I almost forgot to address a BIG pet peeve of mine with Painting in a garage.
B-U-G-S!! Fortunately we had frost (even down to 17 degrees F) in the last few days. That made the BUG problem almost nonexistent for this project. I'm sure that those of you who live in more southerly la***udes already have a lot of the little varmits around. Here, in the summer, the critters are less active in the morning when it's cool. I usually try to plan my paint jobs for then. Also the wind is usually lighter. Before I paint, I spray a whole can of House & Garden type bug spray all around the shop. Do this before you wipe the car down with wax and grease remover and wait about a half hour to 45 minutes to let the stuff finish off the tough ones. Oh, by the way, leave the building at this time. I stayed and did some prep once, and in a few minutes my toungue felt numb. (It couldn't be good for you.) I keep a pair of sharp pointed tweezers on hand just in case a little 6 legged Messerschmidt does an Immelman loop and flops wings down in the wet paint. (Murphy's law of spray painting #47-Any bug landing in wet paint will crawl at least 9 inches from point of impact and lose at least 2 legs and a wing on the journey.) I had a 55 Nomad that I did a really nice lacquer flame job on. After I finished spraying I went to eat. When I came back, there was a mosquito (pismeoffus-alottus) forever embedded in the middle of my hood. I was hoping, in time-lots of time, it would be a valuable artifact like those Egyptian Scarab beetles encased in petrified amber. overspray [IMG]

Don't want to jump your post, But one more thing I thought of is if you are using a conventional type gun {pot on bottom} pull a sock up over the pot and put a rubber band around the neck of the gun. That way if your leaning over a p**** theres no chance of having to hope a drip flows out. You can guess why I know that. And I say again these are great tips for all of your painting needs.--TV [IMG]

  10. Great piece of Tech! Cant wait to see that thing down here Tom. BTW, Gribble said you were coming down for the picnic? And a question for you. Did you make the wood tack strip at the back of the seat or buy it?

  11. Great post Overspray! The info about the moisture trap will help alot. Mine was right up against the compressor! I'll try the loops of hose in the bucket also! Thanks!

Dakota- good to hear your new job is keeping your busy, maybe someday you can transfer up here.

Tman- it's still a maybe on the picnic- I made the wood tack strip. With 4" cut out of the body I would have had to modify a stock one.( you can call again I'm in till 3PM CST today)

Eyeball- when you get here in two weeks I hope it's moving on it's on power.

  13. Power being a VERY loose term! Is that why its painted Safety Yellow? Where are you going to mount the Orange slow moving vehicle flag? Haaaaahahah Sorry man, couldnt resist, I'll call ya later and pick on you in private.

Met Tom at Bonneville in the early 2000’s…ran into him again at one of the Hunnert Car Pileups in Morris Illanoy. Cool guy, cool Hot Rods…when I like a Hot Rod, I tend to take/or save lots of pics of it! 20735AC6-AD9E-402A-B7E6-6DB27C438089.png DBDEDE09-32E5-406B-835A-2CEA1A2089C4.png 5F49F5D1-BE66-4FAD-8AEA-427C4B749AE1.png A6B343BE-9644-4AD3-BF71-D3395BBB33B8.png D717D62D-6770-4BAC-BF14-0419919E0E3C.png

I haven't seen anything masked with newspaper in forty five+ years...

  20. oldiron 440, I still use newspaper. It's getting hard to find. I don't know anyone that subscribes to the newspaper anymore.

Yep, stopped subscribing to our local newspaper when our canary died, if you get my drift!

  22. I collect from work. Mostly for my wood stove in the shop.

Toms car is still one of my favorites here on the HAMB. I dunno how many miles he has on it now after 17/18 years!?!?! Got my wheels turning to use up some extra parts that are in the way.

Still one of the best threads on the HAMB. I miss @overspray s tech pieces!
