Paint, Stance -n- Wheel advice/ideas. O/T?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Eyeball, Aug 14, 2004.

  1. OK I have this fairly solid 65 El Camino. It has a 230 I6 and a 3 speed. I know it is border line mullet material but I thought I would toss it our there to see what other styling ideas you guys and gals may have for it. Selling it is of course an option but it is a pretty solid car and I have always wanted a camino so I would like to keep it.

    What do you think?

Slam it! A little altitude adjustment would work wonders for it. I like Torq Thrust D's on the 60's cars personally. You can't go wrong with chrome reverse wheels, either. Good luck with it!

there was a really cool one that used to cruise harveys(johnies broiler) in the late 80's early 90's ,when we used to cruise there,, it was lowered chrome reverse, skinny whites ,custom grille, pearlwhite with candy red panels. i think it had a lil chop too, anyways that thing was killer,i guess its still around that area?

also,in the new lowrider mag, theres a real bitchin candy rootbeer brown elco, all he needs(in my opinion) is to swap out the spokes for some astros it would be rEET on.

Lower it 3/4, detail under the hood, buff out the paint, lay some simple pinstripe's line's and design's. Add some as big as they can fit wheel/tire combo. Wheel's? Unpolished 5-spoke's never fail with these ride's. Big Sway bar's will make the package complete. For now. Neat handy ride.

  7. Lower it but keep the same stance(does that make sense). Throw on some supremes or torq-thrusts(unpolished) and stripe or scallop it...my measley 2c.

Ok, this may sound a little strange...
But i've alway's dug the '65 Elky from "HollyWood Knights".

It sat up sorta high (60's look), silver/grey, big 'n little's with blackwalls on crager SS rims and a teardrop hood scoop.. it just looks cool to me.

Now, I realise your running a inliner in it, so it dosn't have that 60's street fighter mill that the look will give..

    Just another thought though [IMG].

Nice car, i've alway's liked that body style ElCamino..

    Rat...

I wanted to slam it, throw on chrome steelies and skinny whites, then add some lakes pipes, and paint it metallic red. But this worked too (was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to high but it still got use as a truck.)

'65 front ends are ugly, '64's are better. By the way, you can buy that whole (minus the hood) '64 front clip off of me for real cheap [IMG]

Keep it simple. Buff out the paint, lower it as much as common sense will allow, put on a set of knock off un polished "torq thrusts", 14 inchers will look okay also and they are cheap at swap meets. Blackwalls will complete the look. There you have it dependable daily driver.

  18. This gold version flat nails it! French rake, Bellflowers, candy fade paint, drive it and enjoy it. This would've been a front-line Harvey's Broiler car in the mid sixties.

    Bitchen job, Bradberry.

Eyeball, looks like your 'ute' has chrome rallyes and police caps already. Maybe lose a few of the badges, I wouldn't even worry about filling the holes; just keep everything quick and simple for now. I say in the interests of keeping it cheap and simple just drop it. It doesn't matter if it only has the 6 clyinder. Lowering won't take long to do and then it will be one cool ride whilst your working on something else. Been a while since I photochopped anything, but it didn't turn out to bad. I would usually spend more time on the background, but I was in a hurry here. G [IMG] off aka Whodaky

i think you'd be crazy to sell it, ALL caminos are bitchin'.

I saw an old picture on here of a 64 (I think) camino that was done up for the timing officials at the salt flats. does anyone have it?

Holy crap...the slam job mixed with those chromies and thin whites on that model look absolutely perfect. Looks like a simple concept drawing Jeem would do for the truck mags....cool!

  27. Here is an update on how the car looks now. Thanks to everyone for the input and to bradberry00 for the great photochop, and str8axle for hookn' me up with the wheels. I am using a green flake wheel from Tuck an Frisky Kitten and some green flake for the dash I got at the pile up.

Don't know about the paint yet. Thought about some Watson style scallops but might just wait until spring to do any more exterior stuff.
