    What car? ;-) Great pic!

I was trolling the Portland (I think) craigslist and found a listing for a guy who says he can rebuild the shoebox radio like the $600 repops (I know there is a kit for it) for about $300. I'll see if I can find it.

Strange, it still shows for me. The pics he posted look exactly like the repops I've seen. I don't know if it's against the rules to post someone else's ad here, but if so I'll delete it:

Alright! it's looking great so far. I want a similar trajectory for my 1950 Mercury project. I lowered mine 2 inches (so far lol). I rebuilt my rear drums like you did, but I converted to Disc in the front, keeping the 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern so I can keep the factory rear end.

I am watching your progress on this car, and I may have some questions later. Keep up the good work!

  13. Great project - just in time for the New Year!

Working on our '49 - new brakes and convert to 12 volt. Got new Coker WWW. Lowered the front with spacers and have 3" blocks for the back. Hope to be on the road by Spring!

Nice! I'm going with purple as well, but lighter. 2010/1970 Challenger Plum Crazy. I don't think my bodywork will be good enough to pull off a color that dark.

  23. I've bought a bunch through Kanter, never had a problem.

Cool car, don't let anyone give you grief about the 4 doors.

so my car took a crap on me last week and i couldnt figure out the issue. ends up my brand new piece of shit ballast resistor went to hell. i literally purchased 5 days earlier and didnt think that was the issue so i check everything else first like an idiot. i got new points, condensor, coil, spark plugs and it still ran like crap. i then thought maybe the timing was off so i bought a timing light and noticed when i put the timing light around the number 1 wire the light would only flicker when i first started the car for maybe 20 sec and then die. i then clamped the timing light on every spark plug wire and noticed only 5 of the 8 cylinders were firing. I then realized if the timing light only works on the number 1 spark plug wire for the first 20 seconds thats when it is recieveing a full 12 volts from the starter solenoid. I decided to put 12 volts directly to the coil and BOOM smooth as butter. All that crap for a ballast resistor. MrDickies recommended I get pertronic ignitor 2 electronic ignition and do away with the points and condensor so I did as well as a Petronix Flame thrower 2 coil and spark plug wires (which have not arrived yet).

with the pertonix ignitor 2 ignition and flamethrower 2 coil YOU DO NOT NEED A BALLAST RESISTOR!!!! for some reason if you research this online half people say you do need resistor and half say you do not. The directions state you do not need a resistance wire or resistor with the coil and ignition combo as well as customer service.

the car is running very smooth and i made a video just to show how easy it is. NO MORE adjusting points. i did swap so i nolonger have to worry about resistor about condensor and about points gap!

i switched over to 12V and used a speedway kit $150 first time converting and was not too difficult. def had to consult a buddy but i knew zero about electronics at the time

  28. Nice car, I love the white dash and wheel, and well done with the 4 doors, you soon get used to shaven rear handles also.

Although I've only 4 cylinders, electronics in the distributer instead of points and condenser is luxury.
