You mean This One? The only thing I disagree with in that thread is in reply #19 wherein he states, 'No, they won't confi****e them as long they're being registered to a vehicle that is suppose to have that particular type of plate.' Tell that to my buddy who had his plates confi****ed off his '30 A on a California freeway by the CHP. That would be the fine & tow charge incident I spoke of earlier. From what I've read here it seems that local law enforcement is much more forgiving than state. Maybe we all should just do all of your driving on surface streets (stay away from State Routes though)?
My take is...if you aren't out to intentionally injure or deceive someone else then anything should be fair game. Yes...anything! I'm old enough now where I can categorically state, 'this is not the America I grew up in'. Americans are becoming a nation of sheep.[/QUOTE] agreed
geez we have gotten in dutch here because of a clear plexii cover over a current plate let alone a doctored , recolored ,non registered ,non owner, wrong year, single of two plated ... geez go get vanity plates its what you are doing anyway
Every cop has there picadillos. Some hate tinted windows, some hate ricers with fart can exhaust, some hate Harleys with drag pipes and some hate the people that know better, but break the law anyway because they think their "special". It depends on the cop. Word of advise, if you know its against the law, don't do it. You're not that special....
The Zipper is registered as a 2000 Homebuilt. Picked up some 1927 Colorado plates and had them painted to match the car and then ordered personalized plates with the 1927 numbers. Local cops thought it was neat, but reminded me that it was an excuse to pull me over.
My wife just got her '63 Herald registered with a set of YOM yellow on black plates, the pair we had was not in the best shape to say the least but the DMV gave no trouble (kinda strange for the DMV) I repainted them original colors and they look great. I don't think anyone will give her a second look, except to check out what a neat car she is driving.
Interpretation of the law. There are several CA laws. One says law states "intent to defraud". I'm defrauding no one. Another says "can't alter original markings". It still says "California" and the numbers/letters are the same. My older cop friend says it is no big deal. My nephew's cop friend (youngster) has no clue. On my other car, I had the original blacks restored. I took them to the DMV and the guy says "Wow, these plates are in amazing condition!". No other questions and my car was registered. TECHNICALLY, NO PLATE CAN BE RESTORED under CA law.
