I am wondering what is on the market for high temp header paint? Is there a product that is activated with the exhaust heat and is more durable than rattle can paint?

VHT's "Flame Proof" paint is one of the only 1500 degree paints. Its the only one I have come accross that doesnt burn off. Just prep as well as possible with cleaner and paint in a warm area, and then yes, you can fire it up to cure after initially dry. Kragesns does sell this in there high performance section, and also at this link:

POR 15 manifold grey or black will not burn off manifolds but don't know about headers? Would'nt be afraid to try it, it's good stuff several real life applications here even brake drums. No disappointments:)

I have a wood burner in my shop.
I cleaned my headers with acetone.
than 1 light coat..set them on the hot wood stove for an hour, than another light coat and let it sit for an hour than the last coat and let it sit on the stove for an hour , than I painted the inside of the header tubes too..again while letting it cure on the wood stove..
    4 years so far...so good

I have used VHT on racecar headers with good success. The key is to sandblast the pipes first, and only apply enough to get complete coverage. When I put it on too thick, it just peeled off.
