I thought this was going to lead to a great tech thread. I built an extension whip hose for an undercoating gun with a 90 degree spray nozzle. The under coating gun uses compression threads, bought fitting, spent time making the nozzle etc.

The damn thing didn't work at all.

But I did successfully paint the inside of my rocker panels tonight

Found out a "schutz" undercoating gun with 70 pounds of pressure will shoot primer down a 6 foot rocker panel and cover well. Since it was working, I cut the other end of the rocker open and hit it from both ends.

A wire brush with the handle shaved down and stuck into a piece of 3/4 conduit and duct taped was my cleaning tool. Got everything loose, shoved the shop vac hose all the way in one end, and blew air in the other.

Also found out a quart Gatorade bottle will screw onto the UPOL undercoating gun, not a perfect thread fit, but it will screw on with no leaks at the gun to bottle joint.

Hope this will benefit someone else, keep it simple and just crank up the pressure.

Good to know. I've been thinking about how to do this when I finally replace my rockers

I like your idea, I've used a 3m matte black coating years ago with the same rocker Schultz sprayer under the roof panel & in the trunk of my long gone to Sweden, Chevy II , on our 53 everywhere all over I used Eastwood internal frame costing it ain't too bad either. Good thread topic. Flux

I use a degreaser type gun with extended nozzle to get into those boxed areas. Easy to remove and make a flexible nozzle for hard to get at places. I use a mixture of tectyl (Rust preventive) and oil. Solution drips out everywhere and smells for a few days however it forms a good protective seal that water can't penetrate. Even if water gets in it'll run off due to oily film. I don't use schutz in these areas, it's more of an under body coating IMHO.

we use A pillar foam ( terofoam or 3m #8458) they sell in it in cans like instafoam the 3m is in a caulking tube ) , works great , they say to warm the panel up before you put it in to help dry it up .

them shutz guns are also great potatoe plug guns ... :D

Thanks all for the feedback. The degreaser gun looks cool, might have to pick one up.

The only place that had rust in the rockers was the backside of the spot welds, but the rockers were full of sand from blasting the car.
