Alright Kids, so I decided it was time to make my emblem more original by painting it the correct colors instead of all chrome. So I had some model paint by "Poly Scale" intended for model railroads. (which is my other hobby) The red I used is "Caboose Red" and the blue is "ATSF BLUE" they seemed to be just right. I used a very small fine tip brush and did 4 coats. Now that its complete I'm going to coat it with a clear lacquer to protect it. Anyway here's some pics of the process before and after. Tomorrow I'll take a pic of it on my car.
Eaglebeak is right don't spay lacquer over enamel it will lift the base paint and you'll have a mess. Lacquer on lacquer, enamel on lacquer is ok. Make sure the paints are compatible. CRUISER
Use some 1-shot lettering enamel and leave it alone. I've been doing this for years and have never had any problems . good luck.
Looks good, great job!!! I did mine also, and I used model car paint too, but I didn't clear coat it!! I didn't realize, how much different the 52, front emblem, was from the 51!! I did my rear emblem too. How is the 52 emblem made??? Shadetree
I've used the "other hobby" paint for that application, looked OK but didn't last. The 1-shot idea sounds more durable.
Did the fender emblems on my 64 Malibu with "Testor" model paint with out any clearcoat about 14 years ago. Still looks good. Canuck
