    This is a project I had the kids in shop do a few years ago based on some plans we found in an old Car Craft magazine in some articles written by Ray Sizemore. It is basically a copy of the old Hurst style saddle mount for a SBC. Sorry for the ****py drawing but the drafts the kids did are too big to scan so I tried to sketch out at least the pertinent info. Should be enough to get you started if you are wanting to build one of these. If anyone is really interested I can try and repost the info in a better format. Hope someone can use this info...

    - the material 1/4" thick
    - I'll post the other dimensions in a follow up

    A = 2 15/16
    B = 1 5/8
    C = 9 1/8
    D = 7/16 diameter holes
    E = 5/8
    F = 2 1/2
    G = 3 1/4 radius ( this is too small it hits the timing cover, should be bigger or grind to fit)
    H = 4 7/8 radius
    I = 7 3/8
    Clear as mud? I'll try and answer any questions...

    Here's a similar thing I made for a buggy a couple years back. I left mine in a sort of diamond shape, for a bit more stiffness, but it's the same priciple. Not a good picture, but as you say, 1/4" steel was ideal.
    Wish I'd trimmed it same shape as yours, as it would have looked a bit 'racier'.

    I also drilled "lightening" holes in mine, not so sure I like the way it turned out, I think I need larger holes and it would look better. I may also try and figure out a way to mount the alternator off the bracket as well.

  5. I have the Autocad drawing of this one (a bit wider where it p***es under the crank) that I'll Email to anyone who wants it. It allows the use of the stock mechanical fuel pump where the Hurst mounts that I've seen don't. I can also send it as a "dxf" file for cutting by CNC flame cutter, plasma or waterjet.

    Hurst on a big block, no getting the stock pump in there!

    The mounting tabs on our design go towards the front, should clear a pump although I haven't tried it yet...

  13. Dan,
    If I were an old racer I would call that a motor plate. [IMG]

    Your drawing makes it a lot simpler to build believe it or not. Don't have to come up with a picture in my head. Great post friend. [IMG] [IMG]
