So, yeah I'm dumb. I cruise with my park brake on more often than I want to admit. The pull handle sticking out at me just doesnt alert my dumb brain.

So, I'm thinking its time I made some sort of light to tell me its on. I see there are a few old mopar ones on fleabay and a handfull of lights on there, but havent seen anything for my f100.

Anyone know of a kit for my 61 f100, or better yet, anyone built a setup of their own?

Thinking of something like a 55-7chevy car switch and a light mounted on my dash where the original choke lever was.

Don't know how the F100 parking brake lever, rod or whatever works, but no matter it should be easy to put a tab on it to operate a brake lite switch to light a bulb on the dash.

Maybe it's just me but if your parking brake was adjusted correctly you would know it was engaged. Walk around the junk yard and look at all of the ones with console mounted levers, almost all have some sort of switch and lamp.

well, when youre driving and your rear wheels are behind you it doesnt smell funny until you park, slap yourself for having the brake on allready and then get out to smell it

GM had a neat looking one in the 60,s. I saw them on pickups. Olds had some also. Very easy hook.

How about a motorcycle brake light switch (rear wheel mechanical switch) and a spring to actuate it wired up to a radio shack pilot light.

  11. Laughing my *** off here. Damned shamefull thing, I know as it is something that I practice as well. :D:D

This is by far the simpliest solution. Find an idiot light that you don't use and use it as your brake reminder. Or you could just do what I do, put a check list on the dash and one of your checks should say something along the lines of, "PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE OFF STUPID!!!"

  15. That will only work if it is that goofy digital voice and is loud enough for everyone on the parking lot to hear. :D

I like the speedway one, but mine is a pull handle, not a foot lever. Off to the pull n pay to see what i can find for some sort of switch. Then I have a handfull of unused dummy lights under the dash to wire in.

And no, not married, but the girl who spends time around me, shes good at rubbing it in when we pull into a parking spot and smell burnt brakes.

Like others have said, it is a simple switch that provide a ground (like the doorjam switch) and it usually couples with the switch on your master cyl/proportioning valve. Each of those switches provides a ground to the common 'brake light' indicator.

I just use a simple micro switch with a roller ball arm. Mount a bracket near the hand brake so if the brake is even slightly pulled the switch breaks and closes. Then I use an LED light in the dash to illuminate when the switch closes. Pretty inexpensive and only a couple hours to install.
My present hotrod uses a late model floor mounted parking brake handle, and it came with a switch on it, so just needed to be wired into a light.
