I looked at Amazon.com $ 11.95 for the DVD for me & the boys, but I have to find the cassette (VHS) cause Mom & Dad well... I'm lucky they have a VHS player. haha. (Did I mention they aren't into fads? *smiles*) Dad didn't even want to (and so of course, didn't) put an AC into the coupe even though it got around 110 degrees in the seat in the summer. Apparently he was creative w/ windows & had put something under the seats that Mom was rambling on about... ANYWAYS... looking for the VHS copy & then YES! sending off to Daddy (thank goodness for Fed Ex).

Edit: found the VHS @ amazon.com for $11.43 including shipping :)

Now back to figuring out where the car is 25 years after the movie...

Moderaters, could you stick this to the top so it's easier to keep up with?

  4. so-cal emailed back and gave me a name and number to street rodder. he said the guy at street rodder could probably point her in the right direction. i e-mailed it to diana just so everyone knows whats going on.

Ok, update: I just called a guy at Street Rodder Magazine & he said he would help find out what happened to the car for where it has gone since the movie was out 25 whole years ago. He said he may take a couple days but that he'd keep in touch.

This is cool, very cool. Now if I could just find my dad's '40 Dodge Convertable. Last seen in Berwick PA in '69, I was 4 but I remember it...

Really?! are you teasing me? Or should I start looking for last seen info too? Let me tell ya, I've gotten pretty fast at looking through pics of rods... but sometimes... there are some that just make me stop... gasp... stare... then remember to exhale & then start clicking for more pics. :D (Sure is cool looking at cars from the days when cars all looked like real cars.)

Let me know zman ~ could be much fun!

PS Big huge thanks to the moderators of the board for putting up with all my posts & excitement, I just don't think I could have ever gotten this far without the absolutely wonderful people here. I'd been looking for a while though big mags of rods for sale, X'ing out each one that wasn't it, making sure I didn't skip over anything... looking through thousands of pics online (really glad I have cable).. but this... this is just too cool *smiles & hugs & thanks*

    Put up with you!?!?
You must be kidding! THIS is the kind of story we live for.
You have a great chance of locating this car as a complete vehicle. It isn't "part-able" due to the exclusive mods.
Who would scrap such a beautiful vehicle anyway...
Best of luck in your quest.

I've thought about looking for it. When I go back up to PA this summer I was gonna try and get a lead or two. If I can't find at least a hint of where it went then I probably won't pursue it to hard. I do really appreciate the sentiment and I'm glad you found your dad's car...

I have heard, but can not confirm, that the "Tony Nancy yellow" 40 Ford was owned by the late Tony Nancy at the time of the film. A logical starting point would be his friends or family.

Oh oops, no I didn't think I was kidding because I sort of felt funny posting on and on  So extra thanks for your support!!! If you could see my face you'd see how absolutely red it is from blushing haha! I was even giggling when I was doing dishes just thinking about how awesome all this is. *Hugs*Thank You*!!!

    --

Oh confirmed is not necessarily necessary~ I've been going on unconfirmed this & that for a mighty long time ~ and it's turned up some extremely cool things !!! So Thank You! It will give me something more to search for tonight while I'm surfing & reading for clues! Maybe one of their relatives has a nice *anything* that has the coupe in it somewhere online. :D

    --

Oh and Dad apparently talked Mom's ear off today (she reminded me in her little Mom way: "You started this.") And she said maybe don't post all that on the board but at least put it on a page, so here is even more for anyone who wants to know engine stuff or how they got into the trunk with it all molded closed http://www.beyondthemedia.com/coupe/when1.html (notice that's page 1. haha. there is still more I just had to make dinner for the boys & at least get most of the chores done.

Damn, that's so cool that you not only found the car, but that it's famous!! Congrats to you for all your hard work. I'm sure your dad is even more excited than you are.

Best of luck in physically locating the car. With the luck you've had, maybe you'll even be able to buy it back!

And to all the HAMBer's that helped....good on ya!! This kind of thing is what keeps me coming back here, even if it's just to lurk and learn!

Ask your dad how many louvers were in the hood. I counted eight in the outside row, and 19 on the inside row on the Hollywood Knights car. The nineteen could be twenty - there's a lot of shadow where I was able to freeze the picture. The 8 on the outside rows are for sure. The pattern is very similar to the ones in your pictures. (exact actually)

I called Dad and woke him up at 10:30 tonight. He said there was a total of 54 and then of course he had more to say... He also said on each side in the back of the hood (on the sides of the hood) there was a little cut outs for hot air to get out of the engine compartment. He said the purpose of the louvers on the hood was to get cool air into the engine compartment and those cut outs were there to let the hot air out! He said on the movie pic that was of it with the Yellow paint, they filled those cut-outs in so it looks stock... but he says there was a reason for those & he hopes that the hot air can still get out!!!

After he started going on and on I interrupted him (it's the only way to get a word in sometimes) and I told him that Mutt said he stopped the movie to count the louvers and then Daddy just went silent. He was so surprised!!! I told him people are excited for him too but i think he's just really shocked that people care so much & are so into this and excited about this too! You know never thinking that his daughter would grow up & try to figure this all out haha and then to find out the coupe ended up in Hollywood for goodness sakes. It's sort of overwhelming for him and a little bit for me too! (blah blah blah, it's just so cool I can't stop giggling!!!)

I mean it's like really good luck and we just don't get that... We used to play yahtzee with people back home and always get those split straights & call it a "Brooks Straight" cause that's just like always the luck we get, so close... but not quite! (last name Brooks) So this whole thread & great people & good luck is just so extra wow, I never ever got so amazingly lucky right in a row, too! I just can't believe all the little pieces are coming together after trying to find this car. I am so thankful for finding this forum I wish I could find the right words!!! You guys are just so awesome it's just like a dream.

Diana luck has nothing to do with it. It's you! You have such a great attitude and a genuine care for your dad's dream. That seems to be more and more uncommon these days. Good things should happen to good people and that seems to be playing out here. With all the bad crap going on everywhere it's refreshing to see and hear of some good. A daughter who obviously loves her dad and is really (unselfishly) interested in what he loved to do. He ought'ta be really proud. I know everyone who reads this thread is happy for you and your dad even if you never find the car. Your dad has something even better, it's YOU!

    Diana,

When you find the car, and I believe you will, the numbers 185645207 listed on the registration can possibly be found stamped on the left frame just in front of the firewall. Bruce Lancaster may have a better idea as to where it can be found but I think that's the place the factory stamped them.

I think eyeryone on this board wishes they had a daughter that would expend this kind of energy on a project for her dad (and I think mom's pretty excited about it too!)

Continued luck in your quest ;) :)

So this post proves I don't read every thread. I had no idea this was going on... Incredible post.

Now, I want to help. I'll do anything I can... I am almost 100% sure that car was in Kansas City two years ago at the World of Wheels. I remember looking at it with Chris Simmons and wondering if it was the hollywood knights car... We both agreed it was. I'll see if I can get ahold of registration info from the show and find the owners name. I'll also put out some feelers in KC through Pete and Jakes and others...

Wow. We need to find this car and get it home man.

Another thing... I want to think that front bumper was BACK on the car too... I remember it because it looks so close to Bill C's bumper on that '40 sedan he built.

We'll have this thing on your doorstep before you know it.:)
The hamb strikes again. Yes, the reason you are having success here is because of your love of the craft and mostly because of your love for your pop.
And besides...we are all DIEING to see a pic of this beautiful car now.
    Good luck !! PJ

Heres a new tribute from Dianalees website.

There's something distinctly special (different) about a person that likes cars. Not just like as in like pizza, like music, more as in like love. Okay, I'll admit it: obsession.

We can see a car we like (may subconsciously think we could easily become obsessed about) and follow it for miles, in any direction, regardless of how "out of the way" it may be. We'll talk to strangers, even follow them home, just to find out what they have under the hood!

My Dad's this way, and then some. I suppose many dads are. But it wasn't until I realized it was happening to me that I fully understood his attention to detail at it's finest (AKA: obsession) about automobiles. This isn't just about a new paint job, big speakers and fancy-shmancy rims... this is about every single detail of a car. The custom rod guys did, do and likely forever will be all but fanatical about their automobiles, and for good reason! True love (absolute obsession) is hard to find!

So what happens to these cars? They come & go, some have 2 or 3 rods, some buy & sell them over and over until they find their true love. Every once in a while an owner misses his old coupe. Not just miss as in, "would be nice if...", "wonder what happened to..." but more as in miss with total regret, warning others to never make the same mistake. My Dad kept warning me to never sell my car (which yes, I am obsessed with) and finally it dawned on me (okay, I'm slow but eventual) Oh... he misses his coupe! Just like I would miss my car if I had to sell it!

I wonder where it is? Is it still alive? (Yes, I'm quirky and consider cars 'dead' or 'alive') What happened to it? What if I could buy it back for him? Wonder where it went? These are the pages that tell the story... even though the story's not over yet. It could not have gotten this far with out the fabulous people of
The H.A.M.B. who have been majorly helping!!!

    Point taken.

    Let's find this car.

I've got a call into Championship Auto Shows about registration info. I have to admit that my name is not golden around those parts, so if anyone has a personal relationship over there we might need it...

What I have been told is that the yellow 40 in hollywood knights is the Barris built Tom Hocker car which used to be a pale blue color. There are photos of it in the Barris customs book
