Hello everyone, I am currently building a 292 inline six for a turbo. I have been in and out of many websites and forums(12 bolt, the hamb, inliners, etc ) I own Leo's book, and there are still a few things I would like to know. Is there a list somewhere of parts that interchange from SBC/BBC to a 292? I know small block valves and springs work, iv heard about welding two BBC heads together, also heard about a BBC cam working maybe, pistons from a 305 damper from a SBC . Is there anything else? Rocker arms maybe? Pushrods? Anything I missed?
A cam from a V8 aint gonna work in a 292. a 292 is a torque engine. Long stroke it simply aint gonna respond to high RPM mods. A bit of cam. increase compression and a 4 bbl & hedders will wake it up. If your turbo charging it you need to lower the compression. and need forged Turbo pistons. A turbo on stock pistons will melt them.
I've got a 292 going into my 48 this time but it is a rather mild one intended for running with the big dogs on the long roads and leading the pack if it feels like it. Mild cam, lump ports, Aussie Speed intake that probably flows way too much air https://www.aussiespeedshop.com/product-category/chevy-inline-6/ Scroll down. and a set of cast Tom Langdon headers. All hooked to an AX-15 5 speed with a Novak adapter. I have Leo's book on the shelf behind my chair but haven't studied it too much lately.
G'day, Hanging on the wall of a local hot rod shop is a 6 cylinder head made from welding two small block chevy heads each with a cylinder cut off. This head was used in a roundy round car in the 50's. I believe successfully. Lots of luck trying to get BBC heads to work. The geometry is not close.
question about the Aussie intake....you say it flows way too much air. What do you mean...I've been thinking about getting that same intake with a Spa turbo manifold for my 292....can you share a lil more info about that intake...not a whole lot of people talking about them.....thanks
