I have a 88 suburban 350 tbi, thats been sitting for a few years. I need a shop truck so I am trying to get her going. Has spark new cables, battery charged. Got it to start today with starting fluid but it will not stay running. What can I do to check the fuel pump and how do I drain the old gas out of the tank(do I have to drop it?). Thanks, I trust the guys on J.J and always here good things about you guys here!
you can find the relay for the pump and jump the connector with the key on to see if the pump will run. You cann also pull the larger supply line off the back of the tbi or by the fuel filter and run it into a gas can nand see if it fills up. Could be bad pump, but another possibility(on camaro/firebird anyway) is the oil pressure switch that cuts power to the pump if it doesnt see more than Xpsi of oil ressure. and yes you have to drop the tank. only way to get fuel out if pump is shot is to siphon nor use a jack to aid you.
yea,if its the pump, you have to drop the tank, but it could be just the relay,a clymer manual from autozone or advanced should tell you the location of it.
The relay is over the a/c box. It should also have a prime connector for the pump near the relay. Pm me for the details if you want.
