Found a very nice set of tires on Craigslist yesterday, WWW big and littles, like new, very cheap.. guy didn't like the look on his '32 5 window.. Score 1! Get there and the guy has all kinds of racing memorabilia in his shop, some tools, some great tires (that I bought) and a box with some hoses and misc. parts.. One of those is a magnesium bug catcher with base plate, I look at it, make a remark about it and his answer "If you want it it's yours, it's in my way." Major SCORE! love this part. Don't know what I'm going to do with it, but it made me feel very good about my 4 hour drive to get some tires
Rob, you seem to find some of the coolest stuff, I need to come over and rub elbows with you so I can get some of that mojo.
?? not sure I get what you're saying. The guy I got it from said it was from a blown FED that he ran in the '60s. I don't know anything about the part, besides that it's Magnesium, has a working shaft and a bolt on base (also magnesium) that seems to fit a GMC style blower top. Oh and that it looks cool as can be.
The bug catcher hat had 3 ribs on the top and the front 2 bolts that attach it to the supercharger are on the outside of the had. The bird catcher is the next size up, the front 2 bolts are on the inside, this is the injector hat that they cut the openings and made the barn door hat like you have. Then came the buzzard catcher, like the bird but bigger. I'd say it was used on blown alcohol 1980's. The first pic is a bug, second is the bird and third is the barndoor. JC
