I found some wheels I need in Florida and I'm in Oklahoma. Anybody know a way that gets them here cheaper than $150. That's about what FedEx and greyhound both want. How do you guys get your parts shipped?
a bit off topic, but UPS vs FedEx.........been " sorta watching from the sidelines" for a half dozen years now, wondering what was happening. I live on I40, main trucking route across the US, and my frequent roadtrips get me on that highway alot. Last week I went to Oklahoma overnight, and when I got back on the highway at 7am headed west, right away two Fed Ex tandems p***ed going east. Decided to (again) count Fed Ex trucks versus UPS. Wasn't too many years ago they'd be pretty equal. Not last week!, by the time I got back to Amarillo, 175 miles, I counted 41 Fed Ex big rigs, all but 3 were tandems. There was ONE UPS truck. Off topic, but probably says alot about price comparisons.
Both UPS and Fed-EX are close in price I used Greyhound a few years back and it was a lot less then but you might try using this it's HAMB guys Helping out: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/social-forums/hamb-relays.183/
Over the last few months I have bought 6 wheels from FordBarn/Hamb cl***ifieds. They were all shipped in boxes of two wheels by FedEx for right around $37/box. I recently tried to buy the final two I needed from California. Seller said FedEx was cheapest he found at about $90 for the box of two.
Go to Fed Ex web site and open an account. You will get a discount on shipping. Its simple to do and only cost you your shipping when you use it. I've had trunk lids and doors shipped at a reasonable price. Plus on those parts boxing/packaging was not required they just stuck the label to it. UPS does similar I ***ume. Just an Idea.
I used Fastenal to ship a transmission from Wa state to Texas and It was quite a bit cheaper than the other shippers. Only thing they required me to do is build a wooden box to put the trans in so they could use a forklift. Don't know about wheels and such.
I checked fastenal. Still 30 a wheel and the one nearest the guy with the wheels is an hour from him. I guess I'm going to end up p***ing on them. They are ot wheels and match the ones on my trailer. I would use the HAMB relay and it could take months for them to get here which is fine. I'm in no hurry. No responses to my post there though. If I could get them to St Louis, Wichita, Dallas, or Tulsa I could get them from there. Even Arkansas would be a potential drop point. Wish I knew a truck driver or a hot shot driver that was Florida bound. Shipping is going to double the cost of the wheels. Thanks for the ideas. If you have any more let em rip.
Where in Florida are they? I might be able to have a good friend relay them up to Biloxi, MS if it helps. He runs a car wash service company and has Techs all over the West coast of FL. I’ve also got buddies on the East coast of FL and the panhandle. The car wash company is based out of Biloxi, so maybe I could pull that off for ya. Let me know if interested and I can start making some calls. Good Luck!
Just talked to my Buddy and he doesn’t have anyone near Lakeland....all his guys are on the coast. I’ll make a few more calls this week to see if any of my Orlando area buddies might have a reason to be in the Lake Wales area. Sorry for the wait....I’m trying!
Hey Cowboy, I'm sorry but I got nothin'. Seems I have less contacts in FL than I thought. I guess people grow apart. Good Luck though, Sir.
