Hi guys! I got a question about mopars B and RB motors. How much do their parts swap? I'm looking at a 361 and a 413 at the moment and wondered what parts would swap into either of them. Do they swap with standard 383 and 440 parts? I heard that the 361 shares everything except pistons etc and water pumps with the 350 and 383... how true is this? Thanks for any input! ~Melissa
The B and RB motors have different deck height measurements, so intake manifolds will not swap out (RB intakes are slightly wider) and things like pushrods are going to be different. Valve covers, front covers, cams, lifters, rocker shafts, heads, timing sets, fuel pumps, oil pumps, starters, oil pans and such will interchange between the two. Lots of Mopar gurus here that know more than I, but that'll give you an idea!
the 350, 361, 383LB and 400 are the low deck motors, the 383RB, 413, 426wedge and 440 are the raised block motors. pistons are individual to each motor the following parts are interchangable only within the LB or RB families cranks connecting rods pushrods intakes the following parts fit all big block motors oil pan cam, lifters, rockers heads and everything that goes in them timing chain valve covers(pre '64 and post '64 don't interchange) water pump and housing timing chain cover fuel pump oil pump can't think of anything else important. the mounts on the blocks are the same from '58-78 when they quit making them. a difference in the cranks from pre 60 to post 60 prevents the interchange of transmissions between the two periods. the trick would be to get a good running '63-'65 chrysler or new yorker motor and tranny to swap in. four-thirteen
Low block intakes can be used on raised block engines with a handy set of spacer plates ant two sets of intake gaskets. Low block intakes are cheaper at the swaps than their big bretheren.
