Folks Of Interest Paso John is under the weather..........

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OG lil E, Feb 29, 2012.

  1. I know there are alot of people here on the HAMB that know Paso John, or at least recognize his cars. He got the nickname Paso John because for many years he DROVE from Edina, Minnesota to Paso Robles. I can't remember how many years he has attended Paso/Santa Maria, but I believe it is close to 15. He also frequents many other shows, including the Leadsled Spectacular, the Hunnert Car Pileup, Lead East as well as others.

He is also quite a talented painter that works pretty much exclusively in laquer, and does all his work in his garage. He is one of the founding members of the Metalflake Misfits, and he has always worn his club colors with pride.

Well, the last few years, John has been fighting a number of illnesses which have slowed him down a bit, but he is still always tinkering with one of his sleds or laying down a Kandy Kolored multi-coat work of art on a new project.

John had been suffering from a hernia for the last few months, but it got so bad he finally had to go in for surgery on February 16th. The doctor said it was a large hernia, and that recovery time would more than likely take quite a while. The surgery was successful, but he was experiencing alot of pain during the first few days. On Monday, the 20th, he started to have problems breathing, so his doctor prescribed albuterol. That didn't seem to help, so the doctor then prescribed Advair for him to take. On Saturday, he was still having trouble breathing and was coughing alot, so his girlfriend took him to the emergency room. After alot of tests, they found out he has a Pulmonary Embolism. He was admitted to the hospital and was put on blood thinners right away. He was released on Monday and is home, but he's really got to take it easy and get rested. He e-mailed me to let me know what had happened, and it sounds like if he hadn't gone to the hospital, that he might not have made it.

John is a great friend to me, as well as to many others here on the HAMB, and I thought I'd post this so people would keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

    Get well soon, buddy! E

Very sorry to hear this and a prayer is on it's way for John. A few years ago he and I were negotiating the sale of his '59 El Camino to me. A couple of times the "deal" came really close but something always held it up. As a result he has continued to add to the paint job as a "work in progress".
Get well soon John and keep improving "my" El Camino.

Terrible to hear. Especially since the Doctor kept throwing meds at him instead of finding out what the real problem was. My girlfriend is an RN and has to put up with Doctors throwing meds at people instead of finding the underlying problem. Even when she goes above and beyond and figures something out on her own the Doctors won't listen to a nurse telling them what is happening...

Anyways, wish ya a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing more of your paintjobs.

Like aztecgold said PE's are serious. Glad the Doc finally caught on to what was going on. My Doc was pretty sharp and figured out right away what was going on with me. Some not so lucky. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

John is an awesome guy. Met him at the KKOA leadsled nats in Wichita years ago. We got to talking about a paint project I had in my mind and he sent me all the flake I could use in the mail just cuz he wanted to help. The project changed, but the flake remains and hopes to be used real soon! :)

Well John is a really stand up (tall) guy,
    and really nice too:)!

Howe come that a Norwegian guy knowing a great guy from MN?
In 1994 I Finally got to go to the Lead Sled spectacular.
We got there a day before it started, we took a taxi to the main hotel, just to take a look. We got in the bar to order a beer. A long tall guy was standing next to me, he kindly asked me where we where from. This was when i met John. I told John that we came from Norway to check out the spectacular. That hole week john took care of us, he introduced us to great many people, picked us up at the hotel, and drove us back.
He gave us alot of great memories. Thank you John:)!

Heal up and get well soon John!

Hope to meet up some day:)!
