the show was nice, but like everyone else is sayin, it was just a show, and paso was more then just a show there has to be a way to convince the fine people of paso robles to let us come back, maybe we could take up a collection and bribe whoevers in charge ofit
wow after readin all these comments i'm glad i didn't go. i couldn't make it due to cash fund, but from what i hear,it seemed liek a unorganized event. i guess the best event would be mooneyes x mas party and primer nats.
It won't be back in Paso.. Talked to Penny and the fairgrounds are booked for next year.. There were a few parking issues, food line issues, etc.... They had a big job handed to them in new surroundings... Yes, it is no paso..Time to realize Paso doesn't want it....To all the bashers etc... I didn't see your ass out there at 5 am volunteering to help in the cold AM while we were trying to help out... Jason.
From what I remember reading, another car relateed gig was scheduled for Memorial Weekend shortly after it was announced the WCK event would not be returning. I think it was a high end concourse and car auction thingy.
Yup..That was the plan.. nothing happened. 5PM in paso on friday night looked like a ghost town.. Friends of mine told me dowtown Paso was deserted... Jason
Not bashing you and your frozen nuts...it's an opinion thread...good and bad opinions. I understand putting 1000 cars into a venue is really hard (my club does it every year at billetproof) It took about 20 minutes to get out of the fairgrounds Saturday...one exit gate sucked (maybe next year you can get them to open an extra gate??) Too bad there's nothing anyone can do about the "feel" in the town....it just has no real charm. That was part of what I didn't like at this show and there just isn't anything anyone can do anything about. I spent about $800 this weekend and just don't feel like I got my money's worth. It's hard to get a city (and a venue) to understand just how huge a show like this can be ..maybe next year it will get worked out. I hope so. Thank you for helping put on the show.
PS...Driving by Paso I noticed the sign on the motel6 ...$69 single rooms .....damn I'd like to be a fly on the wall at the next city council meeting there!
I wasn't there, but just got off the phone with the Texas clan. They all pretty much liked it better than Paso last year. Said it had less of a scene feel and more of a car show feel. To me, that's a great thing... In any case, I think it's important that this show get supported. I will certainly be there next year.
They sure acted like they were! They were scary...My girl and I were checking out cars at the santa Maria Inn early Friday and we had to watch our backs. and stay clear of their area. I saw at least 5 parking lot snugglings. They were loud and smelly!!!
I do miss the Paso feel.... The day of city sponsored shows is over. They don't want to provide and pay for extra security etc... We did come up with a list of changes for next year while we were trying to get cars in and out.... More gates open in the afternoon for exit, more outhouses, more food vendors, gonna have more parking direction to line up cars, etc...It had some growing pains but it did go pretty well for having 987 cars on Sat...Jason
IT was not that bad, though Mel's car was out of commision, we drove the gas milage car out there Sat morning. Cruised up Broadway and got a hotel room at Villa Hotel about one large block from the main hotel Santa Maria Inn. We must have lucked out, but it was a scary room too. We got to the fairgrounds about 9-9:30, parked and got ticket in no time. By about 11am we went back to our car to get breakfast, I packed some burritos and the lines were insane. Guys- do note that it seems they let you bring in coolers, beer, and grills into the show. I think that will be gone next year. At about lunch 2-3pm we figured the time and cost of getting food there we left the show, went to Perkos across from the Santa Maria inn, great burgers! We did go to the Shifter's show and the Dice party, they were alright. A lot of cruising going on. On Sunday we left about 11am, it looked like most everyone else would be going too. The show was nice. Yes it's no Paso, but there is no Paso no more. Will go back next year. I think this Santa Maria is a larger version of the Primer Nationals. The only ++ on the Pri Nats is how close it is to LA. There were too many T-shirt vendors and chatchsky vendors. If they had a parts swap or something it would even better. Someone like Dice Magazine should throw a cycle show together that same weekend or within the show, like the Suede Palace at the GNRS. There would obviously enough bikes to fill a section of the show..
coolers and grills will be allowed from what I was told... They are trying not to kill the hanging out with your friends and var vibe... I had mine going Sat. the whole time and served some of the wck'ers hot dogs on Sat..Jason
I'm completely amazed,Abe! You usually don't like anything, LOL!!!! You sure are in the minority here. I have NO opinion cause I couldn't make it. Hard to decide wether or not to go next year, based on the feedback i'm reading here. Can't you guys blame some of the bad critisism on ,first year growing pains???
