When I had been to Paso the show was good time. I know someone who was a "local" who had forewarned us that the city was probably going to dump the show because they (the city) was really wanting to use that weekend for another wine thing, guess all us car guys decending on the town & dropping our hard earned money on food and shit didn't fit with the "wine & cheeze croud" sipping on Merlot's and stumbling out of the park drunk.

When I first started going to Paso I had to get a room in San Luis because there were no rooms left in Paso. Eventually we got into a new hotel and stayed there every year there after. We ate in town, we drank in town, we bought gas in town, we had fun in town and brought others to town to do the same thing. All in all we spent a lot of money in town. I hope that the town misses us and our money.

It means all they want are 50+ year olds that are white, gray hair and have money.

  11. Thats not the Paso I lived in around 76/77 my ex wife grew up there and my cuz owned the music store it could get wild I worked at Freds used
chevy lot Hell of a town in the day. my cuz Marvin owns a restrant there.

  12. Penny just read this and laughed.

  13. The police said on the video about the the beer drinkers. West coast kustoms didn't have a beer garden and it wasn't allowed because it was a city park. The gas stations, grocery stores, and liquor stores in town sold it not us.
Maybe because it was beer and not local wine from their winerys was the problem.

It would be fun to have a cruise by tour through Paso next year during the show. Just passing through NO STOPPING until the next town. Kind of a anti Paso.

ok so i'll admit my wrong doing... but i have to claim ignorance. i attended the show this weekend. not at all what i was expecting. 3/4's of this park was row after row of 55-57 chevy. i, like many of you, like to go out to these shows and chop it up with these guys that built these cars. i have to say i've never ran into so many rude ass old men, no offence old dudes, in my entire life. me and my buddy made the mistake of asking some old guy if his car was a kit car or the real deal. you would have thought we killed his dog. he got all wound up over such an inocent question (btw it was a kit). nobody wanted you to stand next to their car, one guy said "i guess i got the best spot in the park, it seems like everyone wants to have their conversations right f#$%ing here". i was shocked that these guys were acting the way they were. i've been to every kind of car show there is and i've never been to one i didnt like, until saturday that is. we all have different opinions on what gets us goin, but a car guy is a car guy, right? well i learned that isnt always the case anymore. i will never go to the paso car show again. i wish i would have seen this thread before i spent the gas money to get over there.

You know what is sad is the whole central coast is changing. Paso has gone wine & cheese.
    Avila has gone Gap/Starbucks
SLO (where I was this weekend for an art show) has changed so much from the slo I knew in the 80's and when I lived there in the 90's it is not funny.

In Avila the excuse for change was contaminated soil...they dug the town up and the mom and pop shops for the most part were replaced with nice new chain stores.

In SLO retrofit is the excuse to move out businesses and move in chains. There are quite a few empty shops in SLO right now from what I saw.

Pismo seems to be about the only place that has not changed a whole lot.

Back to Paso it is sad to see it go wine and cheese. But i imagine the local shops might have seen a ding in $$$ but for the city bringing in a non mixed rich white crowd = more money spent wine tasting which generates more money for the city.

I know there was a lot of focus on WCK to be kicked out because the city wanted WCK to pay extra for extra law enforcement. I have attended many WCK shows in paso. I personally never saw any trouble, no fights and no drunken fools walkin the streets....wait maybe they were talking about the Mid-State Fair!

Never assume that. I've found just the opposite to be true, unfortunetly. Ego's and politics seem to take over at some point.:(

What a load of bull "finished, insured"??? Santa Maria is a better town for the show anyway. It's been better and keeps getting better. And....West Coast Kustoms gives to The Alzheimer Project so the remark about charity is more BS. Santa Maria is a bigger, friendlier town. No loss.

  26. Mike gibson was probably upset because his mustang wasn't allowed at our show.

And about what the police said?

Just ask the police chief of Santa Maria and the motorcycle cop that Penny was talking to in the middle ot the street during the friday night cruise.

Alright, let's tell it like it really is. Was the show Paso, or was it about the people we meet and came to see year after year. The name or the place does not matter. We left and moved on. The ones who really lost out were, cold cream, the mexican restrant, movie house, pizza place, and so on and so on. DID WE REALLY lose out. Not me . My freinds still show up and each year I add new ones. Sure I drive a hour more, But to see you all i think it is well worth it. Where else can I go and see so many great people oh and a couple of cool cars at the same time from so many differant places. Do i miss paso. Yes. Am I going to spend the rest of my life bitching about it. No, It was just a state of mind for that time period and i have moved on with you all. To me that is all that matters. Family, Friends, And cars, in that order. And alot of my friends are now my family. So thanks Paso for giving us a chance to get going and be strong enough to carry on without you. We have!!!!

  29. So, does anyone know how many cars showed up in Paso this past weekend? How did the silly pre 1978 thing affect the content of those cars?

  30. I posted a comment on you tube about the video.
And low and behold it was erased and i was blocked by the owner of the video.

Whats wrong? This is America .
    My constitutional right was violated.

I didn't say anything negative about their show. I just made a comment that the comments made was BS and if the show was as bad as they said then how could it have lasted almost 30 years and still going strong.
Whats that tell you about Paso car people now.
