Okay guy's you can all line up and kick my *** for this if you want to but, I don't get it. It's like half a damn lame *** bracket race meets Bob Barker! It's just not my thing i guess. Pinks is no better but at least it was watchable when it was a bunch of hot rods thrown together to see how fast a guy could go for cheap and have a good time doing it. As stupid as the arm drop and deal making thing was, at least it was a real drag race, first one to the end of the track wins. Life is short, kill your TV!
Let's get real; ALL "car shows" ****. And that's because People ****. Any show that insists on playing music while someone is talking ****s---Because they know that what the person is saying is so boring they gotta play music to keep things interesting---but they still fail with that anyways because the music also ****s. Now, there was a show on PBS called "Last chance garage." Naturally it's off the air because it was so good, people couldn't handle it. They actually went in depth about things. In fact, i remember one time they were describe the oil bath type air cleaners used on 50's chevys. i think if someone comes up with a show where the have step-by-step procedures, this person will get all the marbles.
C-10, I think you hit the nail on the head, or closer to it, put the socket on the nut. PBS. A good model for this is their Create channel. It plays on our cable system and has some great home fix-it, cabinet making, gardening, cooking, painting, knitting, yada yada shows. Think smaller audiences and more interest in the tasks at hand. I don't think I saw "Last chance garage," but it sounds like it's maybe in the same formula. Not sure why it didn't make it unless they ran it on the regular PBS network. The key here, especially in the cable/Internet age, is pitching to the right audience and not trying to make a major network home run with every show. The old Nashville channel had that at***ude before they were bought and all the shows got trashed, then canceled. A stumbling block to these smaller shows is that the only revenue is from cable subscriptions, with no advertising. That allows the cast to not have to pimp products, as much.
