Sorry guys, it's a 96 Impala SS, so can't post here first. If I have anything of interest, you bet I'd offer it up my HAMB brothers and sisters first...

The replies have been great! Finally good to hear about some of the good deals for a change instead of all the horror stories!

I sold my 46 Ford Convertible thanks to eBay but not on auction. My observations are that very few cars actually sell on eBay during the auction period. After the auction closes your phone will ring off the hook. It's the best way to get maximum exposure. One problem is every wierdo in the country will call you. I also believe many bidders have no intention of actually buying the car as you see the same car listed several times. Parts are a different story, I've bought items I couldn't find elsewhere and have yet to be ripped off. I've also sold all kinds of items including things I was going to throw away. eBay is like anything else, its buyer beware.

I sell on ebay everyday...mostly slotcars, models and automotive literature, last November i put up my 89 Porsche carrera and my 66 Shelby mustang, (real cars) sold them both two days after listing ended. After 300 transactions i only had one problem from a guy in Australia who called me every name known to man cause he thought i should send him his item before he paid me...fat chance.
As long as you get paid , ebay is a great way to make money.

In 2006 I sold 4 cars and a step van on EBAY. These cars ranged from a Porsche Cayenne, to a 55 GMC cameo(suburban hauler) that was in pieces. All the deals went seamlessly. I think that If you SPELL OUT how the deal is going to happen, and dont deviate from that, You will not have issues. My attitude on EBAY is when selling "let SELLER beware" and when I buy "let BUYER beware". I did let my guard down, and bought a car from a guy back east in a "out of EBAY auction", I will NEVER do this again, as the car was only about 60% of what it was represented as. Subsequently I am having to 100% rebuild this car.(Thanks to GAMBINO CUSTOMS!!!). All in all I feel that EBAY is a safe and FAST place to sell or buy.

questions, I never sold on ebay but I do buy alot , not all automotive ,mostly not in fact. How do you guys sell ? I mean paypal seems like just a sub Ebay money maker for ebay, nesessary? listing amounts? start at your bottom or list low and watch the circus? list at half the winning bid and use a higher reserve? buy it now? I have a few guys always asking on how to sell and the best way to list, some ask me to list for them, but I think that may affect my tax status ,too much $$$$$ showing up in my accounts kind of concern,I do not want to pay their taxes.

My 2 cents: List it at your bottom dollar with no reserve. I get fewer tire-kicker questions when I do that.

  7. Two quick storys. A good friend of mine lists a pretty clean 55 Chevy on ebay. The car sells and he gets the deposit. The buyer shows up at his house a week later from out of state with his buddy in a rollback and proceeds to pick the car apart from front to back. My guy tells the buyer that the time to negotiate is over, you placed a bid and thats what the cars gonna sell for. The buyers still cryin about money while his buddy is gettin the chains off the rollback. So my guy asks do you or do you not have the money. Jackass buyer then admits he's 4 grand short but thought they could make a deal. My guy says game over gives the deposit back and tells em to get the f*&K off his property. He's a better man than me. Winds up trading the 55 for a clean old Galaxie + cash. Everybodys happy.

Second one, a relative asks me to sell his early Barracuda on my ebay account. I make up a reason to say no because the car is a bondoed up total roach and i'm figurein the buyer is gonna be screamin like a stuck pig when he sees the car in person. Somebody else ebays it for him, he makes a grand more than he paid for it and the buyer loves the car. Hard to figure people sometimes.

What are the down falls of pay pal? a buddy of mine sold a project car on ebay and after the sale he agreed to accept the total amount of the purchase through pay pal and said he had to start a buisness account to be able to accept $1200 he then said that he cant pull but 500 out every 30 days. does that sound rite? The reason Im concerned is part of the money is mine.
Not trying to hi jack the thread but while were on topic anyone care to share info

I sold my model-a on there last spring with no problems. I think the most important thing is to show the bad spots of the car and be honest with the description, otherwise the buyer gets surprized when they are standing there.

I bought 2 cars because of ebay. Both times I called and talked to the owner in person and asked all the questions I had and discussed what we both expected and what I thought I could pay. Both times I did not meet reserve but after the auctions ended the owners called me back and we were able to deal off-line. If you are going to sell I highly recommend putting your phone no. in the ad. You will get some idiot calls but anybody that is serious will want to talk to you. If I can't call and talk to the guy in person I won't even bid on a car.
