We never officially met, I had seen him at a few events, but his writing made me feel like I knew him. I have been following his latest writings on his web site and looked forward to the next installment. Now there is a void that can never be filled. Our hobby has lost a hero. Sincere condolences to his family.
Not a place to have a major accident. No guard rails on the right side to keep you out of the trees, single ambulance present (and a long drive to the nearest hospital) and no NHRA-level safety personnel/equipment. Your basic 1/8 mile outlaw track... A tremendous loss, and my sincere condolences to his family. He went out doing what he loved...
RIP Pat. Like many of my age, I grew up with the writings of Pat and Gray, the world will never be the same.
Dam it, what a tragic loss to the hot rod world! Pat was the genuine article! Summer is officially over, " RIP " Pat.
Can't believe this. Don't want to believe this. Whether we ever met him or not in person, I think we all felt like we knew him, and admired him. It feels really bad to read this. I'm so sorry .
I'm crushed. I got to know him a tiny bit helping out with pics and info on the Spalding Roadster build. He was very influential on me while he was editor of Rod and Custom back in the 80's. He must've made an impact on us all somewhere along the way. Godspeed Pat.
I am particularly thankful at this time that I got to shake his hand in 2016 at LARS and thank him for his massive contributions and shared insight over the years. I am glad I told him that he was one of the many people who inspired me to DRIVE to LARS from Smithfield, VA (you can't get much further east of the LARS without getting wet!) in a qualifying hot rod to get a mug. I've always treasured that time with him and getting to see his roadster that I watched him build through the magazines over the years was almost magical to me. Truly a nice guy and at the same time a great and generous guy. Please rest in peace and my deepest condolences to his family and all our fellow rodders that so appreciated and enjoyed his work. Sad Al
I am deeply saddened to hear of this. I will pray for pat and wish to extend my condolences to his family and friends.
Thank You for some insight... As horrific As this is... At least we have some idea... This*****s.. Large!
I just caught wind of the news elsewhere. I'm just gutted. A huge loss I'd say for the world of hot rodding in all it's noblest forms. Godspeed sir and thanks for everything, really.
This is really hard to hear. A racer to the very end. Pat I never got to meet you and I'm the poorer for it. RIP.
