He was posting just the other day. His writing really influenced me as youth. Couldn’t wait to see what he had to say.
R.I.P Pat. My brother met you. My brother passed praise to you on behalf of both of us. A couple of hot rod nuts at the other end of the earth. Thank you. I started reading Pat at 13 and I'm now 60.
My wife told me the bad news moments ago when she checked her Facebook notices as she crawled into bed. No way. But then I remembered that there was a race up north this weekend and so we read more. It’s hard to describe that stunned, sick feeling that hits when you realize that it’s true. We’ve lost an irreplaceable treasure in the form of a real hands-on hot rodder. So hard to believe. It seemed like he would be generously contributing to our hobby forever. I was always delighted to see his newsletter in my inbox. Gone much too soon, I pray for God’s peace upon him and his family.
We lost a torch bearer today. To many of us a hero. To all of us a friend. I don't think our hobby would be where it is, if not for him. Uncountable numbers of us influenced by his early coverage of The Shifters, Burbank Choppers, Von Dutch, and more! And the history. Oh, the history he had in that brain! A truly incalculable loss. His coverage sparked a resurgence, and brought new life to a stale, pastel, billet nightmare. He brought us back to our roots. To the essence of hot rodding, and for that we owe him everything. I don't think any of us can say he wasn't an influence on us, I've been reading "Too Tall Ganahl" for longer than I know. Maybe 75% of my life? I feel like I've truly lost a friend. His loss will echo through our hobby forever. Pat Ganahl IS a Legend. And while they say heros get remembered, legends will never die. He now joins Baskerville, and maybe a few others, as true leaders and thus legends in our small world. His words will be with us always, and in a way, he will be with us always too. We were so lucky to have him.
Surreal day, just unbelievable, truly sad day for all of Hot Rodding, heartbreaking for Pat's family, friends and fans around the world who are all mourning a much loved pillar of our community. R.I.P. Pat "Too Tall" Ganahl.
Robert Patrick Ganahl June 2, 1947 - August 19, 2022 RIP @pgan My thoughts & prayers are with Pat's wife Anna, son Bill, & daughter-in-law Sabina
Just got up this morning and read this. Can I please go back to bed and pray that this was just a bad dream.
Rest in peace Pat. My condolences to his family. This is a great loss for us as a community but even more so for his family. A great man gone too soon.
As others have said, a big loss to the hot rod community, my thoughts to his immediate family with what have to go through with his sudden loss in their lives.
As a young kid who was captivated by Rods & Customs at the same time Pat was the editor of R&C, I admired his writing then & continued to follow his work over the years, such a loss, one of a kind he was.
Another terrible loss. I am stunned and beyond words. Such a great man, a hero to many of us. Condolences to his family and to all of his followers.
One of the largest contributors to the Hot Rod and Custom world. Immense history. A really cool guy. Definitely a loss.
