Pat - congrats on yet another home run. Well thought out and executed (twice, at least)! Hope you get to enjoy it for many happy years. Scotty
It was a no brainer to pinch hit "The Mick" for relief pitcher Steve Hamilton. Ganahl too has hit a homer with this one!
Talk about coincidences, last night I was looking through some of my old TRJ's and came across #9 and the story of the Joe Nitti '32. Pat did a super job of detailing how he researched the roadster. Then today... here is the story about Pat's finished roadster. Great job, Pat. The hot rod is perfect in every sense. It is absolutely beautiful. Jerry Johnson
Man, I have fallen love again, don't tell my wife!!! I have always been a closet purple lover and on this car it does it so right!! Would you mind sharing the color code??!!! Any one want to buy a kidney so I can start my search for a 32 and make a clone of this car??
I had a teacher once who said, "that as far as she was concerned there was no such thing as Perfect"! It didn't bother me,but it surely did some people who had been "Perfect" their whole life,at least up until that point. They even had their parents talk to the school about it. Oh, boo hoo. I love both versions, but I think the later version contrasts and brings out the paint color better. One of these days I'll paint something a dark oriental purple. Well done,Pat.
That car is perfection! Great read and what is also brilliant about it all is the story/background to it - totally grass roots died in the wool hot rodding. I love it. I really like it with both sets of wheels - I like that concept. Enjoy one or more cars with one actual vehicle. More than fitting for Ryan's spotlight on the HAMB. Enjoy it Pat - I know I am
Beautiful Deuce Roadster. The whitewall tire combo is exactly what I was looking at yesterday for my '34 Dodge 5 window. I have the original 16" wheels and have been looking into the same style beauty rings. Those moons are perfect You just can't say enough about a car this pretty.
One of the very few cars I've seen in my 50 years of building, driving and "lusting over" "Hot Rods" that I would change absolutely nothing!! Amazing to me how many things on his Deuce are the same that I have unknowingly put into my Roadster. Been searching for years for the "Royal Triton" purple formula, I've been close but no cigar. Cant wait to see the Roadster in person, maybe at the CHRR if there. Can you spell "PERFECT"? Well what can I say that has'nt already been said or thought! Job well done!! Dave
What else can one say but WOW. It's great to see that a man can build a car that gives respect to the car that inspired it but is not clone and has it's own distinct personality. In this case the car shows that it can have two different personalities when the occasion arises. I think I like both looks equally and the wheel/tire selection of the day would have to depend on where it was going and what other cars it was hanging with on the occasion.
I know you went a lot of trouble finding those baldie caps and the right wheel/ WW tire combo, and it works. But that being said, I've always been a sucker for early 60's hot rod styling!! I love the mags and slicks!
It's so cool to finally see it done, awesome! I like the two wheel setups equally well as I'm a big fan of both styles, and it proves how important the wheel&tire choices are.
Pat, What a beautiful roadster... Well done fer sure... Been an avid fan of your cars over the years, even one's parked up at the Ranch in Corona that your Grand Mother wouldn't sell to me back in the 60's while I was still in high school..... But this one is the iceing on the cake to be sure.....
The Nitti car was always an inspiration for me, but WOW!!! That's my new 'poster car' I think. I've even got a clapped out Cad and an Edmunds 2x4 intake as a starting point.
Oh, man! What a treat that was...in Pat's own words! While I read it, I was imagining his deep voice...........is that creepy?
Sorry it's O/T, but has Pat repaired his 56 F-100 ? I saw a shot and a little story about a BAD wreck he had with it in TRJ, and I was just wondering if it was as bad as it looked, or was it repairable. It was a "right on ride". After all the body/paint articles he did using it, That may have made for the ULTIMATE body and paint article...
For those of you making fun of my intro... I wrote it about 5 years ago while I was dreaming of someday having Pat write on The Jalopy Journal. I never thought it would happen, but wrote it anyway. Dreams. Sometimes you actually get to live them!
