I couldn't afford to have the 200r4 rebuilt in my 84 Grand national after I burnt it up about 2 years ago. SO I decided, a few weeks ago, WTF I am gonna rebuild it myself. IT was a PAIN but with the guidence of my boss, I managed to complete the rebuild. The smile on my face was from ear to ear when I put it in drive and it went forward lol. I drove it up the road a few times to see how it shifted through the gears before stopin and launchin the ol buick's 327 to see what it would do. It caught the most beutifull second I ever heard lol. I'm stoked! And only cost me bout $250 with new converter!
Congrats! I've done a c-4 and a torqueflite now, both worked great. There's nothing we can't do if we're willing to try.....
i'm impressed.i'm looking forward to my first auto trans rebuild one of these days,a dual-range hydra-matic circa 1955.i've only ever rebuilt manual trans before, and i have to admit the prospect is a little intimidating-george
hell yes. there was quite a bit of shit in there. My boss had never rebuilt a 200r4 before either but he is still pretty knowlegable, so he was a HUGE help. I'm puttin the buick on insurance this friday. MUAHAHAHA!!!
I'm glad to hear it can be done. I'm planning to rebuild my 200r4 this weekend. I've never done any tranny work before and unfortunately I don't have a boss or even a friend with the know-how. I do however have a manual, a rebuild kit and a TCI lockup kit. Are any specialized tools required?
