Ha. Sounds like this guy I know named Levi. Except he bitches because he's got big flat feet, not because he's old. :D

You and your dad will have a good time this year...

A perspective I hadn't really thought of before and makes a lot of sense. I know that since Pate is different, I seem to notice the other swap meets growing. I've got to get out to more though. Cresson was probably the farthest I used to ever drive. I was spoiled. I've never left any swap meet empty handed

BTW, anyone know when the next Garland swap meet is? Is there an Arlington swap meet?

I'll be there. Ive had spaces at Pate for about 25 years now. Sure miss the years at the cattle ranch. Its not the same at the race track.
After Mr Pate died his kids sold the property to a housing developer. Covered with 2 and 3 story yuppy crap now.
Used to hawl all kinds of greazy parts down there and back, till i got down in the back. Now i sell Low buck Rod insulation. Do pretty well with it. Not to be spamming but check it out at www.lobucrod.com.

Somoene got a model a roadster yesterday for 500.00 Still had some original green paint on it. Pops got some small stuff. Not a hole lot of stuff we wer after but being broke sure dont help the cause. Try to go back Saturday. Pops said it looked like a local Hamb convention going on. Looks like the storms are fixing to hit now with scattered showers tomorrow.

Hey, if anybody from the Austin area sees a pair of Plaid Valve Covers for a GMC V6 in decent shape I'll pay decent $$ for them...I dunno up to $80 or so, work in enough profit to make it worth your time. I'd love to go up there, but I'll have wait for Fredricksburg or Rosanke...

They were used on 1963 GMC 305 V6's...

    Here's a pic...

    Thanks

Yea... today kinda sucked. 2hrs of sleep, not much $. I don't mind the rain, but it's hard to buy anything when the vendors pull out their tarps. :(

    Wake up @ 3am
    Pick Dad up @ 4am
Drive to 4.5 hours to Ft. Worth
Spend 30 minutes stuck in traffic to get to Walmart so DAD can get poncho
Start Prospecting in the rain slightly before 10am. Sky finally clear, the masses awake and slowly uncover tarped tables and parking spots.
We bailed in the 1:30 Golf Ball sized hail coming maylay.
Was back in Houston for dinner and lotso beer with the wife.

Punchline sit on ebay and have friend/spouse/GF douse you with a bucket of water every 20 minutes.

Made it from row 1-7 but only saw 2/3rds as the other 1/3rd was still under cover.

I got 2 '40 Texas plates, and a set of Rivi armrests.

Different note. The old guy DICK factor! I guess my hearing has gotten more accute lately.
1st Stopped to look at an A coupe for $5500, awesome shape (The primered gray that came with the IFS'd chassis setting behind it). But I over heard the he's too young to even know what to do with that A.
2nd Made a $60 offer on a Mobil Pegasus Tag Topper that was tagged at $75, and got countered at "Sorry its not for sale"
Well I don't refute the fact that I am balding, but do lack the grey hair. I was F-ing shocked at the open shunning of young guys in traditional arena.
My old man was with me, and he got the Pegasus guy to $60 for me, but WTF?

I've never had problems with this before, now you add water and assclowns sprout??????

I got there about 7:30 and left at 5:30. I covered pretty much all of it. Good thing I had a small trunk or I would have had a lot more.

I was scrounging in some bins and this old man told me everything was a quarter. After I had maybe 5 or 6 items..

Him: "I don't feel like carrying this stuff home. Give me $10 and we'll empty all of them in one box."

Considering I already found a decent 51 Ford gauge cluster and matching clock and several tools, it was well worth it.

Later I got to pick up the box and there was a large ice chest full of stuff too.

Him: "I don't want to carry all of this home either, you can have it."
Me: "Thanks, but I can't carry all of this to my car in soggy boxes. Got no place to put it."
Him: "Ok, I'll sell you the ice chest for $5 and we'll dump everything in it"

The jist of what I got:

    A newish Coleman ice chest

A couple dozen inside door handles for 30's & 50's cars, some matching pairs, a few chrome trim parts.

    Several light trim pieces

2 pair of chrome headlight trim rings...make unknown

A pair of rocket ship looking lights with a red lense on one end and an amber on the other. Look like the bolt to a fender. Tested and they work.

About a dozen inside rearview mirrors of various makes

2 sets of oxy/ace regulators and guages. Condition unknown.

A decent collection of wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, pliers. Enough to fill a carry around tool box.

Several red and amber glass lenses. Looks like might be for a big truck.

    4 truck trailer reflectors NIB

3 trailer lights, look like new.

    12 assorted gas pump nozzles/handles

A DAle Earnheart clock that makes car sounds every hour...it works.

and whole mess of other stuff that I either don't know what they are. I will take pictures and post a link asking for help in identifying some of the stuff offline.

I noticed that as well. I don't know what the reason behind it is...but the asshole quotient has been more prevalent lately. Lighten up guys...we're hot rodders just like you are.

I asked a guy how much for a pretty rusty unsplit '32 wishbone, and he said "a lot." I say "how much is a lot?", and he begins to tell me it's a '32 and that's why it's expensive, and I tell him "yes, I know what it is, that's why I walked past the Model A wishbone that was in front of it and asked how much the '32 wishbone was." He was a nice enough guy, but it seems that a lot of older guys assume a young guy can't possibly know anything about old Ford parts.

I couldn't even begin to tell you how many older fellas asked me "are you building one of them rat rods?" as I was walking the swap meet this year. My reply? "No I'm trying to build a nice car, but all the nice parts sure are fucking expensive!" :)

All in all it was a good swap meet. I spent more than I should have so I didn't even go today (Saturday).

Here's a list of my scores:

    - (2) nearly new, but vintage SP tops for Stromberg 97s.
    - (3) good, rebuildable, and complete Stromberg 97s.
    - (1) rebuilt Stromberg 48 for $20.
    - Pair of split '32 wishbones, one slightly bent, but fixable.
    - Neato 17" diameter white Cragar steering wheel
    - Pair of decent and complete 354 Hemi Industrial Heads.
    - Nice 'Sharp' 2x2 intake manifold.
    - Pair of '37-41 spindles with a chrome Model A tie-rod.
    - Nice '33-34 Ford Windshield frame...with hinges!
    - Pair of tall Stellings & Hellings valve cover breathers.
    - Complete Hurst shifter with linkage and bracket for a Muncie 4 spd.
    - Pair of cool 'Keystone' valve covers for SBC (see classifieds)
    - 40 spoke "spool" for a motorcycle wheel.
    - '40 Ford rearview mirror for $5.
    - Killer late '40s - early '50s "Smokeshop" Cigarette machine.
    - Nice pair of KD Lamp headlights for $10.

The most expensive thing I bought on that list was the Sharp manifold...and the guy threw in the '37-41 spindles and tie-rod for free!

Probably the coolest thing I saw at the swap meet was a pair of "Scott" injectors that were made in the early '50s from Stromberg 97 bases. They weren't cheap.

Pate is still a great swap meet as far as I'm concerned. Anyone else want to share their scores?

I bought a bunch of stuff that I probably shouldn't have...

    -Pontiac taillights
    -Kaiser taillight
    -Olds gauge pod
    -NOS Olds taillight lens
-NOS Cad/Olds to later Ford adapter
    -Dodge taillights
    -Foxcraft skirts for shoebox
    -One skirt for '50 Olds
    -Hudson taillights
    -'35 Horns

Didn't do too bad, although I hadn't planned on spending any money at all.
