  1. Photos and text from Tappets Car Club Instagram page-

Another cool and quirky club car was this ‘38ish Ford truck. Flathead v8 very heavy channel with a 32 grille, Tri-bar flipper caps and wide whites. Whatever you can afford and was available! Super cool! A lot of respect to these guys!

Again some people's perception of "traditional" stems from their own personal little universe and thinking the rest of the world followed suit to their interpretation.

It's as I said before we've done nothing new in yrs that hasn't been done before, maybe not in your circles or neck of the woods, but the great thing about hot rodding is all of the ingenuity of the poor, young and inexperienced people that came long before us ! Good thing many of us wasn't there at the time to tell them how wrong they were.

And Ed Roth? He'd been banned so fast from many "traditional" web sites. Along with a few others...

    ..

  4. Yes sir, yes much as I love period correct hot rodding and racing I hate what many are trying to and in some respects have turned it into.

I like it all painted, premiered, patinaed, Mexican blankets, full tuck-n-roll, racecars, hot rods, customs (kustoms?) but now we are at a point where everything needs to be traditional that many have lost track, changed, or have just plan and simple don't know was is "traditional" when it comes to racing and hot rodding.

There have always been innovators, people who have pushed the pushed the envelope, people who care more about engine and chassis than body and paint.
Then there are those leave things to quote Matt Murray of Irontrap garage "Perfectly Shitty" to wind people up, or to rub salt in the wounds of those who are loading a super fancy car on the trailer, while the less then perfect sometimes godawful body work wise car is in victory lane with the race queen the trophy, and most important the check!

@Robert J. Palmer exactly! And as each year passes the monitor's of what's "traditional" envelope gets smaller and smaller until one day it will be all the same car, same color, interior, motor etc. Cookie cutter "traditional".....

Gotta love the natural patina, of how exposure to the elements, does its own great paint job.
This little art project I have going on, is a combination of a Ford COE headlight bucket, and a pair of 47 Chrysler tail lights.

When I have this finished, I will post the end result of how it will look at night time.

The headlight will illuminate via a solar powered LED spotlight, and the tail lights will illuminate via solar powered LEDS as well.
    Thanks from
    Dennis.

Tradition is peer pressure from dead people.

You think that hasn't already happened? Look at threads here about anything remotely new and different, I think we're already at least a good portion of the way there.

    The recipe seems to be:

    -Model A or 32
    -35 Wires or 40 Steelies
    -Black body
    -Not black wheels
    -Tall skinny tires
    -Flathead
    -Manual Trans
    -Drum brakes all around

If you do anything but that, there will be some loud complainers about how your car isn't traditional or you don't know what you're doing.

I remember touching up the red lacquer primer on my car because I had a date, and she noticed!

I would like to build an A in all grey tones. So a camera couldn’t decide if was color or black and white. That’s traditional. I think.

  15. So many things that never happened in one vintage photo!

Primer, an unfinished interior and overspray on the inside of the left front tire at an indoor car show!

  17. A four door Dodge (I believe) with a 1950 Mercury grill!?

Now we know that never would have happened!

That green 4 door car is probably a 46-48 Plymouth with the Mercury grille inserted. The curved rockers are a dead give a way, and it still has the Plymouth fender spear intact. Even looks like the the front of the hood extends lower then the hood to fender line, another Plymouth "feature". The center piece of sheet metal that holds the Plymouth grille unbolts leaving an opening large enough to insert the Mercury grille. The 46-48 Dodge fender shape would have extended into the front doors.

But you are correct, the mercury grill looks really bad in that Plymouth 4 door sedan. :p
