Rust is a sign of neglect and decay, not "patina?
This is Patina, well cared for, notneglected but you can see the signs of wear in spots where the paint has worn thin or in a few spots where it wore though to the factory primer. The car was owned and loved by an older gent who kept it under a tarp that caused the wear on the paint. It got sold and the guy who bought it buffed it out and drives it.

what a great post. everyone has an opinion but no one knows what the car even looks like.

  5. And everyone has been 100% correct without a consensus.
My correct opinion is that you enjoy the ride as you see fit. Real, fake, rusty, perfect, flawed, painted………

And I’m 100% correct just like someone that disagrees

  6. If I was a potential buyer I would like it washed and cleaned out inside. Nothing more.

  7. I really do not remember how many times I took a tool box in trade from some mechanic who had never even wiped the dust off his box, let alone actually cleaned it. I would take some poor, greasy, stickers over every flat panel, and drawer slides so neglected that it took everything ya had to get the drawer open, old box home and then do the full clean and detail. Remove all the stickers, hand wash all the drawer liners, spray all the drawer slides with solvent, and then blast the entire box clean with my steam cleaner. Then I would power buff all the painted areas and finally hand wax the box and polish the drawer trim. The next week when I was at the old owners shop, probably over 90% of them would comment about how nice that used box was and that it was JUST like the one they used to own! Many would actually try to buy it, and wouldn’t believe it was their old box! Moral of this story, just make it as good as it can be without changing anything! That way nobody will say they would buy it, but because of…..

i consider this patina, with some rust that needs fixed (front fascia). the top of the fenders is patina to me, though some disagree.

Wash and sell it. I don't buy cars because they look trendy. I can look past the Patina.

Wash it, clean up the interior a bit, and send it down the road.
Put me in the group that wants to see what it looks like without someone screwing it up just to sell it.
I don't want to have to look under a 1/4" of dust and dirt, but I also don't want someone that did a quick "fix it up a bit". Some "patina" looks like ****, some isn't too bad. If you did something to the outside more then wash the dirt off of it, you screwed it up.

Nothin looks worse than cracked 1/4" thick bondo with rust forming underneath and calling it patina. I think we've all seen this before.

Dragging a car up from the southwest to the the northwest that has a nice sun baked look to it is not going to look good in a couple years from the 364 days of rain we get up here. You are almost forced to coat it with something to try and preserve it.

My opinion of Patina, to be clear, is a laquer paint job, polished so many times that the primer is showing through, some wear showing, not neglect. I am perfectly willing to jump on the bandwagon however to further the progress of my Henry J. These pics are the best I can provide without going off topic I cansay It has the best running 390 I have seen in years. IMG_20220312_142023~3.jpg IMG_20220312_142045~3.jpg

I’ve done primered, painted, and my crusty 28. I have way more fun with my crusty 28. It's not protected but it doesn't sit out in the weather either. B4D8E258-F637-4AD1-A565-C1E26093C13E.jpeg

  18. My drover (cattle dealer) introduced me to the term, they are in their working clothes, meaning the cattle were fresh off the farm, not fattened up, doped up or pampered in any way. That is how I like my cars too. Why primer or paint it, the next guy just has to strip it off, and it eliminates the possibility of legit patina- whatever that might be. Always a little suspect of a fresh oil change too.

Could you post some blurrier pics;)?

Im with the clean it up, let the next guy figure out what to do with it. When I say clean it up, means inside, outside and all nooks and crannies.

My thoughts on patina: a good patina car is actually a rare thing. Most of the cars left to be found in a field are pretty much beat to death. If you find a true “survivor”, then sure, wash and go.

David Freiburger (Roadkill/Roadkill Garage) does a lot of Comet washes, I'm always surprised at what a good job it does.

Pix the whole thing. Faded weather paint w/shards of primer, metal is a patina.

Would like to see pics of this elusive vehicle we're all discussing.

After my current OT frame off project, I think I could really appreciate a worn paint car. Except in IL that means it has holes in it.

The truck is an off topic Ford bought to flip. The last time I posted an off topic car it got deleted,, even though I was referencing my favorite color, which was on a Chevelle.

  26. Why patina doesn’t rhyme with ****** is still a mystery

If you’re looking to flip it for maximum profits I’d pick the trendy approach and sell it to one of them numb skulls that want “that” but can’t even change their own oil.
P***ing on a deal to the next car guy would be a different approach, less is more for that guy.
