The Feb. '58 issue of Car Speed and Style featured a really sharp customized '49 Dodge convertible from back east called the Patterson Hurricane (builder's name was Patterson). It was sectioned, had '56 Fury rear quarters and gold trim, Mopar wire wheels and a Plymouth poly V-8. Guess it's mostly forgotten today, but does anyone know if it still exists? If not, it's one car I'd like to clone someday...
Ah...maybe this one perhaps. This mag is offered on ePay currently. Feb 1958 edition. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-FEB-195...852?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5d6e60cc
Four years later... I dug out the magazine to scan an article for another thread, so I might as well post these images. Rikster, do you know anything about this one? A '49 Wayfarer convertible; it was built in Batavia, NY over the summer of 1957 but the builder/owner was a student at the University of Miami, so it might have been seen there too. As the article says: 4" section, '56 Plymouth quarters, 290 HP supercharged Plymouth V8, DeSoto OD trans, '56 Chrysler wire wheels and a black and white interior. Really hope this one survived; a sporty but cl***y one-off kustom with nice proportions. Hope it turns up...
In your 2012 description, I must admit, I was a little dubious, but now that I've seen the pics, it's pretty cool. Incredible amount of work to achieve a pretty interesting custom. Here's hoping as well that it somehow survived and is just waiting somewhere to be brought back to life.
"Each night he had an audience of more than 50 people looking on and offering advice" The poor guy was living in the middle of a HAMB thread back in the day! Lol
