Im just writing this as a public service announcement to let the world know that this guy is one of my all time favorite non-merc builders of all time! How about a round of applause and although Id love to see pics of his chopped DeSoto and the Merc nosed Stude truck,Are there any other customs that this absolute genius has done?
Not sure about any other customs, but he worked some serious magic on a totally f*cked 32 5 window coupe that came out just *****in!
My bud and I had a good talk with him at the sept paso. It's the first time we met him. When i was younger I used to cruise lowrider nights in Santa Maria in my riv. I used to see a 4 door chopped merc hanging With the NEW CROWD car club . I found out it was his ride. I think his car and a buick(that belongs to a BEATNIK) were the only Kustoms that i would see out there. From the work that I've seen he's also one hell of a painter. He painted the bad*** green Plymouth that belongs to Mark from the HEADHUNTERS carclub.
Here are some more pics of his current project. Thats Paul with the 32.( He didn't want his picture taken). I believe the dash is the same color he recently painted the DeSoto and the primer came from Mexico. The 32 will be getting chrome radius rods and backing plates I believe and maybe the axle. He's not into computers and probably not aware he has so many supporters.
that 32 rocks. thats a really cool looking chop..theres something different about it , but i cant put my finger on it. like the firewall too!
Firewall looks like the same stuff I used years ago. (Stainless steel back splash that is used in Diner kitchens)
I have meet him on numerous occasions and he is also the nicest guy... some of you mayb remeber his "Sledabaker" truck another bad creation... like the group hahah
That car is outrageous. Great lines and flow, but the freched tails aren't doing it for me. The peak in the decklid makes it look kinda like the front of a VW if you look fast.
Paul is a bad ***! His Desoto is one of the most creative and unique cars I have seen in recent years, it looked *****in in satin (we liked it so much we put it on our flyer), and now with paint.. it's like on a whole other level. We hung out with him at Paso this Labor Day weekend and told him we'd love to re-shoot his car. He is way humble too. Some guy came up to him and asked Paul if he was going to take the Desoto to all the big shows (like the autoramas) and he said those shows aren't his style. His deuce is *****in too... He said he's only taking the 32 to Primer Nats, not the desoto.. Here's some pics of the Desoto on Friday night at Paso -Juan p.s. I'll let him know he is getting major love on the hamb.
It took me awhile, but I think I know what it is about the top. Check the windshield height. It is about as severe a chop as you can do on the street. The '32 Ford top angles back at the front A-pillars and also a bit at the back. So when you chop the top, the roof has to get lengthened, especially if you don't lay back the A-pillars. The greater the chop, the longer the roof. Also the rear quarter-windows on a 5-window coupe start to get a small point at the rear as the vertical height decreases. Net result: all the proportions change, making the eye try to figure out what happened, while the drool collects on your chin.
I got a piece of that DeSoto action, I sold him that grille on Ebay! When he told me he had been looking for years for a good one it blew my mind. It was laying in the trunk of a coupe in a local junkyard for decades.
Bo Huff is on the phone right now and says that Paul Cepeda was cool as hell when they met at Paso and when the media catches on to him it will give customs a big boost because of Pauls projective design and craftsmanship.Bo and I spent a half hour talking about how cool his cars were.
I just got done talking to Barris on AOL Instant Messenger, he agrees with you on that one. I love that desoto....
I'm just razzin ya. That's cool that you know bo. "Bo knows customs" Anybody else remember those Bo Knows commercials?
Damn that Desoto looks sweet in paint, that is one awsome colour........ So Skip, whats the roof off ? the rear 1/4 windows look later like a 33/34 shape I guess 34 Nash just to toss it into the mix You see Stick got engaged ?
Keep thinking, the window openings were hand fabbed if that gives any clues, and yes, it did start life as a car Skip
