I was browsing @ looking at deuce pics and it seems everyone w. a yellow deuce has got Paul to sign it...and the look on his face in one pic kinda got me wondering if Paul ever acquired a deuce for himself and if he has an old rod to kick @ in.
If he does it's never talked about at least not that I've heard of. There's been a lot of attention paid to the 32 in the last 10 years and not once have I read of him having his own hot rod. I did buy an autographed pic of the coupe from him. I missed a chance to have my pic taken in the car that night. We were walking around late in the evening and the car and Rick the owner were sitting all alone. I talked to him for a bit but didn't have the nerve to ask if i could sit in it. He probably would have said yes since he was real friendly but I just didn't do it. Should have.
I popped the car question to him when he came to the wheels of time show in Macungie, PA a few years back.....he said... "I AM NOT MUCH OF A CAR GUY"!! I was big time bummed...I was picturing him with a bunch of Rods and Customs in a big warehouse behind his home or something......but then quickly realized...he is just an actor playing the part of John Milner! I am not sure about his health...looked very tired with some back pain and sat down alot...and when he made his way around the show he seemed to get winded easily....hope he is doing good now! I enjoyed talking to him about the movie and other topics as well....he is a great and very kind guy to be around!.................John
we have one nice clone here in portland. I saw it being built and it still got me when it was finished. a real nice driven car
even if the guy is just an actor... it still had me the first time I saw the movie... Love it and watch it as often as I can
I have heard that he wasn't into cars much. When he was in Boise the second time he seemed a little grumpy. Maybe because this event is family friendly and no beer on the grounds. When asked to have a picture taken he refused to come out from behind the autograph table. Bo and Cindy were their and they were all over the place with the public.
thats alot better than the lookalike Steve Byers tried to make outa my old model A in southeast portland, this is what it looked like before he painted it yellow etc..And yeah he had some serious heath issues he wont go into but hes doing much better in the last couple years,I talked to him about 3-4 months ago and was doing good
I read somewhere that the actors in AG and Star Wars got pennies on the dollar as far as royalties go. Seems Lucas was the only one thinking ahead. Maybe that's why he seems grumpy sometimes.
with a long line for an autograph, I p***ed on Paul one day at an indoor car show. 2 hours latter he was sitting on a folding chair all alone looking totaly bored, I walked up and pulled up a chair and kicked back. we were talking about life, sat there till the groupies came back. he told me he had a '66 mustang 2+2. said he didn't drive it much. years ago a law p***ed and they could no longer cruise. told me about the good times there.... then he said that there was talk that they would alow cruising again and he would check it out, if it looked OK.
i met him an got the signed picture as well. he is a real nice guy thanks to my dad i watched american graffiti about 50 times before i was 5 years old
I met Paul at the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George several years ago. I waited around until there was no line at his booth, and the bought an 8x10 and shot the breeze for a while.Parked next to him was a clone coupe and I asked if we could get a photo. He seemed more than happy to oblige. He was telling me that the coupes owner let him drive it around at the Saturday night cruise. He told me it was alot faster than the movie car! All in all,a nice visit with the man.
Paul LeMat signed this pic at Back to the 50's In Minnesota about 4 years ago. Rick Figuri, the current owner, was there with the car. Steve Fitch took this picture of me at his house in Wichita in 1984. He restored and owned it thru the early 80's. It was really great to get Paul to sign the photo.
That's my car in bare metal in your pictures. Thanks for the kind words. But that yellow fibergl*** car in the other photos isn't mine. We're currently having the upholstery done down in Eugene. You're welcome to check out our build blog at My Dinner With Milner. Aloha
Cindy Williams in a "Milner Coupe" at American Grafittii Cruise in North Tonawanda NY. all p[ictures of that event can be found here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/571717870PYihPS
Years ago I saw Paul Lemat at the Fuddruckers cruise in Pasadena, Calif. When I saw him get up and walk away from the cruise towards the parking lot I followed him to see what Milner drove. He drove a Honda Del Sol then. For you no-import guys that's a 2 seater civic type car with a removable targa top. VonWegener
that's O.K. he will allway's be remembered as JOHN MILNER. and brother that's good enough for me!...POP.
I met and talked to Paul several years ago at the Nats South in Knoxville. Extremely friendly guy. I made the mistake of saying you'll always be John Milner which the last thing an actor wants is a stereotype. Anyway he seemed disappointed I had never seen Aloha Bobby and Rose and told me I should check it out. I bought the pic which he signed for me. The best part though was when we were talking about the race with Falfa. He obliged me when he respoke my favorite line in the movie, two words "Paradise Road" 48 Poncho
"Aloha Bobby and Rose" was actually a decent movie. Kinda chickish, but he does drive a nice first generation Camaro.
Spoke to him first time way back at "Wheels of Time" show nice guy , A question was posed ,,,,, how does it feel to be the cool guy that every high school guy or gear head admired and wanted to be like? i think he was overwhelmed
Another film he did was "Melvin and Howard". I've enjoyed his acting in all his films and look forward to seeing him again on film sometime.
Former boxer and Vietnam Vet, he's got my respect and admiration. Time may have taken it's toll on him but hey, it's taken it's toll on me as well
I recall a few years back there was a '32 5 Window...for sale on ebay...it was satin black with a black and white checkered flag pattern on the firewall....white walls, magnesium torq thrust five spokes....the seller claimed it was owned by Paul LeMat of American Graffiti fame....
I met him at Hot August Nights in Reno and told him that American Graffiti helped me get into cars and I believe he had cost me quite a bit of money he laughed said ow come on man then I told him I didn't mind and laughed he signed my picture and I moved on seemed like a good guy
there goes the ***UME again. A&M did a fine job, glad to hear I was wrong. look forward to seeing your car at PRS in march? Jim I hear Darrell is looking for you
Hey Hal. Dont be upset that someone confused all that steel work for a fibergl*** car. At least he thinks you finished!!
