Cool as hell. Got any video of the car in action for those of us who have not seen or heard it run?

That car is simply shit hot!

    In my book of Hot Rod cool, it's got all the Hot Rod check boxes checked;
loud, fast, chopped and a handful to drive.

Just looking at the pictures, I can imagine what my ears and nose would be catching on a run; hot oil and grease, exhaust, gears, clutch, hearing and seeing the road go by under your seat...music. Sweet music.

  3. I'll see what I can do to get a short video taken of this thing running...I'm sure Paul would oblige!

  4. Hurry please!

  5. A bit more on the history of the car (excerpts from Speed and Chrome Illustrated, Issue 1, Volume 4):

Paul bought the car from Dave Simard in 1998.

Dave Simard bought the car out of Riverside a couple of years earlier.

Riverside resident "Ray Gonzales built and owned the car. Simard tried several times to buy it, but Gonzales would never sell. Then Gonsales died unexpectedly, leaving his family with no life insurance. Gonzales's window contacted Simard then, to sell the car."

After purchasing the car from Dave Simard, Paul has since contacted Ray's widow, and sent her pictures of the car with his wife and kids around it, but she has not responded. He told her that whenever he takes the car out, people want to know about it, and know about who her husband was, and when he built the car.

Paul has changed only what he needed to in order to drive it, choosing to keep as much of it as he can in its original state, unrestored.

According to Paul, the car "needs to be left the way it is, as found. People have really appreciated seeing it as it was found instead of all fixed up. There's been a lot of history there, and simple details of how a low-budget builder used to build them."

Here's a shot at it from Billetproof WA 2008:

Laughing my ass off here! There's no sound more beautiful than a straight piped flathead with an aggressive cam.

Its no project. Changing it would be a sin. The car is very primative and all business from the day. It is a valuable and cool part of hot rodding history. Its a cool stable mate for Pauls equally cool yellow '32 5 window.

WOW I wondered where this car went to! I remember seeing it in Street Rodder when Dave brought it to Mass from Cali. I think it was my boss at the time that also had pics of it at Dave's house. Definitely one of the true hot rods and it's story keeps getting better.

it needs to come back to Mass and get raced at Orange!

  25. Interesting. I didn't know it was ever in Street Rodder. Do you happen to know what issue? I'd be interested in seeing that.

It was also in Rod & Custom - July 2001 and Speed and Chrome Illustrated - Vol 1, issue 1 (2004).

  26. Thanks for the videos! Kickass.

it was around 94 to 96. I think it was a small pic in the back of the mag right after Dave got it back to his house. Dave might remember. Also I think it should be in Hot Rod Deluxe! I hope those guy are reading this! Jared

  30. The cool thing is that it has a 1938 or 1939 Lincoln Zephyr transmission.
