PB for the 59 Ranchero

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, Nov 9, 2009.

  1. :D Wow, I installed a power brake conversion set up on my 1959 Ranchero over the weekend. Holy sheeeet Batman, the thing stops on a dime now even with the old style drum brakes front and rear. My next move will be spot brakes on the front,,,thats "calper brakes" for you yunguns..

Uptown...I've always been a fan of stopping when needed

  3. :) next comes the air shocks (got em), stronger sway bar (getting one), a trailer hitch (making one). Then PS is next. I have all the PS stuff, just gotta get it cleaned up, re-furbished and installed. Once it's all done, I'll use her to tow the GizzleHopper to tracks that are short distances away.

    Real nostalgia there my man

I need a booster for my '58 Ranchero, even with LTD spindles and discs, my foot's working too hard. Any tips on the right booster? A local shop tried several boosters and said it worked better with none. Maybe I need to start over with matched components, but that's a lot of **** to buy!

I would stay away from air shocks... seriously. I bought brand new ones before my trip to texas and they're toast... maybe overload springs if its to help compensate load. I'm adding a panard bar for sure and replacing all the rear spring bushings. I had a lot of rear end sway and rubbing whitewalls...

I have PS in mine... it rules.

Guys, if you run a later ford engine with Original PS and you use a late 5.0 power steering pump, you need to get one of those PS adjuster valves one of the rod shops out of R&C makes them. I have a 57 with a 351W but original PS and it's too fast.

For PS there are about 3-4 ways to go about it.
    1. get an original setup,-- BTW I have an original Y-block pump and bracket if anyone needs that. but you need the power ram brackets for the idler arm and the pitman arm.

2 605 style box, apparently this route has issues on the 57's that been converted.

3 rack steering the old wurth kit, there are couple other guy making them apparently Rick has issues, I don't think he's even making these any more but it not rocket science to make your setup. Just look up 57 ford rack and pinion steering, 59's are very similar.

4 mustang 2 your front clip, but there something wrong with that on this board!! hehe!

BEEP, please post what company you get the better swaybar from. I have a Quickor suspension front one on my 64 wagon and will be installing the rear. It rules!
