Looking to clean up a few connections. Still in the mock-up stage so I’m thinking a lot. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Instead of using vacuum tubing for the PCV line I am considering using a piece of 3/8” stainless tubing. For the connections on the ends has anyone ever used heat shrink tube? Wouldn’t do it until final ***embly but what would be drawbacks to doing this for a cleaner look? Pics below are my mock-up using short pieces of the heavy abrasion resistant push lock tubing I’m using for my flex lines in the fuel system. Would not be using this tubing an final ***embly. Just using it to check the fit of the stainless tube. Thanks, SPark
Only one way to find out.. do it. My engine has shrink tube at lots of the wiring and that takes the heat that comes off the engine. Make sure you use a good quality shrink tube. I get the out-of-date mil-spec sleeve that they toss out at work.
Tried it on the actual PCV valve. Seems to work pretty well. Think I’ll put a small bubble flare on the tube end and double the heat shrink when it goes together for the final time. Thanks for the feedback. SPark
I'd use thicker shrink tube. The thin stuff can split/tear; check at an electrical supply house and ask for the tube rated for direct burial. Much thicker and tougher...
