Hey all, I just rebuilt the fuel pump on my '53 Buick Special, and now that it's all cleaned up, I've noticed it seeps oil from the pressure relief holes between the fuel and vacuum pump areas. I assume these holes are to keep crankcase pressure from blowing out the internal oil seals. Anyway, since my motor has 100,000+ on it, I assume there's a bit of blowby! Anybody fit a PCV system to one of these old motors to save seals? How did you do it?
Oh man, do a search and you'll find tons of PCV tech articles. Here's one, but you may find others that are better: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64338
There's a lot of helpful information on PCV systems on this board, but here's a link to another board that gave me some diagrams. http://groups.msn.com/GaleforceZephyrs/pcvvalve.msnw I know it's not the exact same set-up as yours, but it may be helpful. I used one of the set-ups on my car and it works great! No more smokescreen driving up grades! Good luck!
OK, here's what I'm thinking for my Straight-8...anyone chime in and tell me if it won't work...I plug the road draft tube and install a PCV valve in the area of the road draft tube/side cover. Then I run a line to the intake manifold port where the windshield wipers get their vacuum using a tee or something. The oil cap is ventilated, so this should work...anything wrong with this system???
Anybody? The vacuum source for the wipers is only about 1/4 inch in diameter...will this be enough vacuum to operate a PCV valve effectively? I appreciate any opinions!
