I asked a related question about six months earlier: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/earliest-hanging-pedals.1294665/ Conceptually, pedestal pedals are purer to me for a ladder-frame car, especially an earlier one whose overall shape is a lot about the frame. But I get the packaging issues. Pedals with offset arms and concentric shafts might be something to work with. They can even be detailed that the floor penetration is locally perpendicular to the shafts.
Lol okay? What a thing to try to correct. I've had mine across the scales a few times, it is 3,800 lbs. Brochure curb weight vs a non-stock 62-year-old car.
My '65 impala weighed in at 3400 which why your weight sounded heavy,so I looked it up ! That's all , nothing nefarious .
Like someone mentioned here, the brake booster M/C ***embly needs to be braced if hanging them from the firewall. This is after the prep This is before. I welded steel reinforcing to make the firewall mount... and added a steel U channel support brace from the pedal ***embly to the dash. It bolts on using the column drop bolts and studs I added to the top of the pedal drop. The other arm is my brake light switch. It makes for a very rigid mount and stiffened the dash/column at the same time.
Lol. That's without me in the car. Full of fluids, spare tire, etc. It lived on a farm for several years, maybe there's dirt hiding in it.
Sorry, couldn't resist. Maybe someone stashed some gold in the rear quarters. I pulled the front end off a T/A a few years back and someone had cut a "door" in the drivers side cowl. Definitely a smugglers mule car. Nothing in there though.
I have built a lot of F body GM stuff and I just used the same parts and the same tech. It worked for them. And it is easy to source parts.
My personal preference is firewall mounted. Yes, you can see it and they're usually not pretty. But I like the fact it's easy to access to check, or add fluid, and not worry about getting fluid on my carpet, or having slotted openings for pedal travel. I backed my firewall with 1/4" plate, and also a brace from the pedal bracket to the dash for strength.
