I bought a used performance built power glide an wanted to drain the converter some for storage, Well this is new to me, the shaft came with the converter? An didn't appear to wanna come out? Soo... Having help here to move it upstairs I figured screw it for now, put it back in... Well it's about an inch or so From fully in... An yes I indexed it for 15 minutes an still wouldn't locate... Any ideas here fellas? KIMG7077.JPG KIMG7078.JPG

Yep, PowerGlide input shaft just slides in and out. Problem with putting it back in if it gets pulled out is sometimes the mating parts in the trans slip and drop down a tiny amount and then you can't get the shaft back in without standing the trans up on it's tail like you would when reassembling it after a rebuild.
Generally there is enough "sticktion" in the bushings and splines in the trans to prevent the converter removal from pulling it out....but you always want to go easy removing the converter off the input just in case.

With it standing up on end, it is just a turn and shake and wiggle proposition until you get everything rattled into place. sometimes it almost drops right in, other times you fight it for an hour.
Much easier with the pump out.

The shaft should just slide out of converter correct? Or are there splines that have to line up to get it out? This is all new to me... Clearly... An Thanx

Splines my be twisted in the converter. Tap on it side to side while pulling up on the shaft. See if will come out. Is it t400 spline or glide?
May also be the shaft got beat down into the converter and the splines are jammed at the end of them.

I have held the converter up an tapped lightly on con. An not letting go... I can move the shaft up/down about 1/4" an it will kinda "hang" on the out direction, but doesn't wanna let go, How twisted can these things get? It came out of a mild SBC s-10, but not to say it didn't come out of another car...
