Iv made my own front disc setup for a 61 ….. very easy - inexpensive if you can do basic welding and 14” will fit....Keeps the stock spindles and hubs.

If he can drive, mopre power to him.. My Mom and inlaws had to give up atthat age, but I have customers pushing 90 that are still good drivers. More power to him.. and there is your answer.. are they power brakes? I had power drums on an old Olds once, they stopped rather nicely. Non power discs take a lot of effore, consider they have no "duo servo" action and reduced friction area as opposed t drum.

    Just something to consider.

Project done and a complete success:). The younger man, in his late 50's, who drove the car before and after, said difference was like night and day. My brother very happy with the results.
The project went great, and no serious problems with the conversion kit. We started about 1PM, and by 5pm, finished and enjoying few cold beers.

Two minor things. (1), where the bleeders are on the calibers, have to bleed brakes before reinstalling wheels and tires. (2), old MoPar's had left hand threads on left, right on right. Both rotors in the kit were right. We didn't think of this until we installed tires and wheels, so we had to search for 5 right lugs. If we had remembered that little fact, we could have switched and used the old original studs. We are going to correct it, but for now has 3 right hand wheels/lugs, and 1 left hand still on left rear :(. The original 14" wheels cleared everything and fit back perfect.

Thanks everyone for "all" your comments, suggestions, and advice.

40Stude, not a problem, me good.

  5. Jack, what did you end up with for a kit?
Are the calipers on the wrong sides, making the bleeders ineffective? Or are the calipers just clocked differently, from stock, on the kit?
You certainly jumped on the project quickly! Some people on this board just talk about stuff for a long time and then drag on and on on the project.

Finding the bleeders not a problem, they are located on top, outside, but can't get to them with wheels and tires installed. We did bleed the brakes and drove the car several miles of stopping and going.
I did not get the kit, but I plan to get the info and post it. I know Kantor shows they have a kit for this car, but don't know if same manufacturer. I am sure it wasn't a Wildwood kit, there name was nowhere on the kit.
