you REALLY need to get a 2006 NHRA rulebook and read it front to back, multiple times. do not follow outdated reqs. unless you plan on running in the 12's/13's where they are a more relaxed... most Nostalgia events require updated safety equipment (depends on your dial-in). what local nostalgia organisations are in your area? contact them and find out how they define cl***'s.

concerning induction, base your decision on what you know how to tune - as an example, you wouldnt want to buy an injection setup and not have a firm grasp on induction tuning beforehand right? holleys are readily available and there is plenty of do***entation on upkeep and hi-perf usage. perhaps ask your machinist what his recommendations are... afterall, he is the one building your motor, no? ;)

my machinist knows squat about building motors, he's just a damned fine machinist...I'm the one building my motor...I'm not too worried about having to learn how to tune something, I'm a quick learner and I've got you guys here to help me through what I can't figure out myself or find in a book...I do plan on running in the 12's with this thing, it's not an all out drag motor, but you never know, the damned thing might surprise me once it's built...I tend to understate things a lot and seem a bit pessimistic when it comes to having to guess at horsepower and ET's...I'll be contacting the Midwest G***er ***'n and possibly a few others as well...I always planned on following current guidelines for safety equipment, that's a given, but I was curious as to how the nostalgia cl***es are currently run, and if everyone sticks with the same general rules...

  3. As far as the brakes go I'd be sure to put a duel MC in for safety. We put duel MC's in our g***ers with no boosters and they work just fine, but we also have disk brakes.

I'll probably put in a dual master cylinder for sure, I forgot the stock one is a single...

you're not going to be able to bolt a pair of **Xcfm carbs onto EVERY motor and not do some tuning...and honestly I'm not wasting my money on new carbs when there are plenty of matched pairs out there for sale used...

see, that's what I'm talking about...I ain't got 600 bucks to waste on a pair of carbs, that money could be put to better use elsewhere...

Holley = Cheap + easy, infinite adjustability IF you are willing to invest in enough parts to START YOUR OWN HOLLEY PARTS STORE.

Carter = reliable + PITA tuning + Leak free.

Edelbrock = The worst product to come out of Edelbrock EVER.

Q-jet = Self tuning, + Requires knowledge to set up right the FIRST TIME. Best street carb BAR NONE. Infiniate adjustability.

  8. Isn't a predator carb those big boxy things? I've never even seen one in person, just in magazines. How do they work? I remember in a Jegs catalog it had a big variable CFM which is kinda confusing.

    --Edit--
Actually I think I'm thinking of something else.. maybe. Can't remember the name though. I swear it's predator though.

predators are a variable venturi design, so as I understand it it sort of adjusts itself to your engine's needs...if your engine wants 685CFM, that's what it gets...if your engine wants 900CFM, same deal...there's two different styles, the street version which has an idle circuit, and a race version which doesn't have an idle circuit...I don't know how many different CFM models they make...

I know alot of people will fight me on this but ,Disc brakes ARE period correct. If people could afford them....they used them.

well, the person I envisioned owning and building this car in '62 couldn't afford disc brakes...so there...the way I figure it he picked up this old POS '40 plymouth sedan for $20 bucks, found a brand new wrecked '62 pontiac to steal the posi axle off of, bought a '53 windsor for $30 bucks and took the motor out and sent the rest to the local boneyard (after picking off whatever else he could)...threw it all together with some homemade ingenuity and a few cheap catalog parts and went racing...and as the years went by he upgraded and added a few things here and there by way of wrecked cars and broken bits on his dragster...
