I know this dances right on the edge of this forum's outer limits, but I figure the 'period correct' aspect might wrangle it back into the focal point of discussion. What was common place for the kids in the hay day of the 67-68 (heck even 64.5-66) Mustangs to do in an effort to customize and wring every ounce of horsepower from their little ponies?

I would think a lot of the 'C code' cars might seek out 4V intake manifolds and Holleys to help them breath a bit better or maybe squeeze a T-Bird/Galaxie motor in between the towers if ill-equipped. The almost stereotypical Torque Thrust D wheels are about all I can imagine for appearance changes, but that couldn't have been the only visual adjustment popular back then.

Anyone collect images or records of them, if so feel free to post them up?

While not quite on topic for this board, you might dig up a collection of '64-'66 Car Craft magazines... They were absolutely Mustang crazy back then, and doing something cool with them almost every month through that time period.
