    No changing the ***le...

If their ***** is so small that the use of a specific word threatens them, then they're gong to be threatened no matter what.

People are complaining about what they see as a "debate" about the symantics of the term "Period Correctness"...

But if you look closely, it's those very people that are causing the "debate"...

The question at hand is at what point striving for "Period Correctness" goes too far...

If you think "period correctness" is stupid, and correctness isn't a part of Hot Rodding, or that both terms are down right UNAMERICAN...

You don't have much to contribute to the discussion...

Again, I'd like to see examples of where you drew the line and your reasoning behind it...

Isn't all rod building self indulgent? In fact, isn't any hobby, unless feeding the poor happens to be your thing. Nothing wrong with being self indulgent. Self destructive is when you aren't having fun any longer or you sell your first born child to a Middle Eastern Emir so you can buy a quick change. Not too complicated in my simple mind.

I build my cars more period correct than some, and not as period correct as others.
Because that's the way I like them...

Yep, the Hot Rodders " back in the Day" grabbed the best, newest parts they could get their hands on.
But to try and translate to a Trad Car now makes no sense to me at all.

Because there was no Trad Hot rodding " back in the Day"...

Just like there is no Mk1 of a certain type of car untill they build a Mk2, and it makes no sense calling somebody " senior" untill he has produced a "junior"...

    And besides that...

50 or even 80 year old parts have a "soul" than new ones wont have ( in my lifetime...)

Yeah, I'll spend more money saving and modifying a set of beat up original Deuce rails than a set of Repro ones would cost me.
But I'll buy the Repro ones if I cant find some Genny ones.

To me, that makes perfect sense...

You summed the whole thing up in fewer words than anyone else here. Now, let's build some rods and kustoms, era correct or not!

Exactly. I think it's a pretty good discussion myself. Makes us think. You did use the term "philosophical" in the original post. Definitions of the ***le words don't apply. Definitions of restoration don't apply either although there is a degree of that most definately used in an "on topic" type of build.

And don't we already know it's about building a hot rod or kustom?

This issue will wander around in our minds/communities like forever I guess.

    PERIOD CORRECTNESS

I have a VERY strong definition for myself on this topic.
I'm with loogy's definition and J.B and Zack a**** others.

I'm also doing this ONLY for my own ple***ure. I want my car to be the 40's style dual purpose (lakes-street) roadster I have dreamed of.

Not a copy of one specific car, not only based on pre 50 parts, but also a combination of parts that is credible for the period.

By that I mean I will not put on all the cool parts I can get my hands on just becase they where available at the time.

It will be a car that could have been built by an average hot rodder over a period of time, let's say 1946 - 49. Evolution.

    EXAMPLE:
The second water temp back mount Stewart warner gauge will be placed outside the panel, because it where put there at a later time than the panel itself, to keep controll of the other head/gasket...after a blow out perhaps.
Not symetric but an insane detail I FIND FUN.

I will build it without a quickchange. Not because I can't find or afford one, but because my "Hot Rod Joe" didn't need one to take his girlie to the movies or race at El Mirage. His money went into the engine.

    ORIGINAL PARTS vs REPOP
I never have second thoughts about cutting up orig parts. My orig Deuceframe included.
It's just an old s****ped car part.
As long as there are ONE orig Deuce in a museum for the history record....The rest is wild Prey in my book.

All these car parts are only of interest because we make them that.
By no means will a restorers fun and vissions be more CORRECT or NOBLE than mine.
    IT's OLD S**** METAL.

Why do I do all this????? I HAVE NO F....N CLUE

If I had to put the blame on someone I would first of all frame Don Montgomery and my friend klazurfer.

"Honest Judge, them lead me to it....I SWEAR"

Paul........................I love this ****pile of mine. :D
