Hey Ryan... I checked, www.tooljournal.com is taken. Looks like one of those assholes that camp on names. (man I hate that).

Like you need on more *journal site to take up time spent on the hot rod.

    haha!

Wow...the tools from that Craig's list posting just arrived...120 pounds of T, A, and V8 toolery. I'm going to be rummaging and identifying stuff for a week...

What's the big aluminum wrench on the right for?

I found one laying on the side of the road a few years ago. Never figured out what it's for, except a conversation piece.

I keep a tool roll and assorted odds and ends, including a couple of Tyvek overalls, in an Army surplus backpack.

I usually do not pack good tools, be they old or new, as you have to assume that if you carry them in a vehicle they can be stolen. I do pack a few 'good' tools but open ends and sockets are cheapo throwaways.

Damn, I forgot to mention this - and this is the truth - I put a couple of dryer sheets in the backpack since the 60 year old canvas can smell kinda musty.

Awesome thread. Shameless plug--if anyone wants leather tool rolls made to your specs, please pm me. When I say "made to your specs", I mean size, # of pockets, layout, leather & hardware color, everything. Custom tooling/carving is available as well.

Reworked an old Craftsman tool box and made some straps out of 2" X 1/4" flat stock. If you look closely, you'll see one of the little brass HAMB tags. DSC02605.JPG DSC02532.JPG

  23. I have a cheap set of tools in a plastic box where the tools are all in order that I carry under the seat in my Deuce sedan...it has been used by several guys & myself on the annual All Deuce Run,,no one ever complained where the tools were traditional or cheap,,they always come through in a pinch. I found this at a antique store thought it was cool and would work as I don't plan on taking everything and the kitchen sink, theres enough resouces and people willing to help out if your in need. 10356707_10203304925375526_7660806324481465661_n.jpg

Wanted a box to snug up against the trunk wall of my OT 56 after I mini tubbed it. Shortened this old Craftsman 3", thrift store belts, and stainless pan to keep him in place. Enough stuff to change a tire, install an HEI coil, and change plugs. There is also bailing wire, duct tape, zip ties, extra plugs, and some misc. plumbing & electrical junk stuffed in there. Strictly traditional, nope but the tools are oldies! And I really like knowing it's there.

I picked up a set like that on one of Eastwood's sales that has sockets and the end wrenches that will get you out of trouble on the road. I've got a small old too box that has been swapped from veahicle to vehicle since i was a teenager 50 years ago that holds my ratchet, screw drivers and other pieces that usually get used including the multimeter and test light. Of everything I carry the test light has been used by myself and those around me on the road and at events than all of the other tools combined.
In the past I have usually just packed along the tools I thought I might need to do what I might have to do on the side of the road or in a parking lot. Some weren't "vintage" when I bought them new but would probably be called vintage by a lot of guys on here now.

That's a good looking tool box Johnny99 my Dad carried one somewhat similar for 60 years transferring it to each car he bought and I think my dipshit X brother in law threw it out when Dad died.
