Another good score.... you need it for hauling mulch and lumber at the new pad. I want your father's 34.
Such an awesome story and find. Never burn the bridge you may have to cross later. Sometimes just keeping in touch lets them know how much it will be appreciated by you. Had that happen with me trying to buy an old Ford tractor from a widow. It only took me 5 years though for her to call me and ask if I was still interested. I was. Love the looks of the old Ford. Keep it updated, I'd love to see it's progress.
I have never met you but you must be one hell of a nice guy. I mean you keep scoring, that has to come from putting good out there...or you sold your soul...
Chris, your first truck changed my opinion of these trucks,,I still think they are homely but at the same time they have a cool look and may just be coming into their own. Congratulations on having you noise to the ground to continuously keep finding the treasures on what seems to be a daily basis. HRP
Well, she is now running! I rebuilt the carb, and thanks to Bubba the distributor is good to go. It runs very well, fires right up, and although smoked quite a bit at first...that seems to be gone after I changed the oil that I had put a lot of marvels mystery oil in. I t still does not have brakes, but I crept out in my alley to see how it steered and shifted. I think with a little wiring, brakes, gas tank cleaning and a few more odds and ends, she will be a driver!!
Great looking old Ford, never really cared for that style either but this one is growing on me. Was it mine, I would get it running and stopping then drive it and grin. Can't find much like that around here.
AAAARRRGGGHHH! Where do you keep coming up with these? I am known as someone who knows where stuff is in my area, and my first search everytime on Craig's list is "1942 Ford truck" all the way up to 1947. I still can't find another in even close to the shape that you seem to find. Or, if I do find anything it's always the week that I'm too damn broke to think about buying. You lucky, persistant guy! Drop that puppy to about where your old one was, delete the white walls this time and paint the trim and wheels a shade lighter cream than the original stuff - done!
Wow, nice find and a good story. I'm usually not all that much a "patina" guy because (in my opinion) too many guys think decades of neglect is "patina". Totally surface rusted trucks do nothing for me. But this truck and your '46 have the real thing - they show decades of USE, not abuse. I think I'd be tempted to color sand it with a very light grit only; say 1500 or 2000 and polish up nicely whatever paint will cooperate. I really like the rims and wide whites on your '46. I think I'd do something similar. I like your idea of doing some of the trim in a heavy cream off white. Possibly the rims too, just depending how it looks after you do the paint. New car caps would be a very nice touch. Huge congrats on a super nice truck!
