I have seen a lot of problems with pertronix, seems like they borderline work just well enough so the engine starts and runs but not as well as it should. On a recent example a Ford 302 with pertronix III distributor and coil went on the chassis dyno and gave out at 5100 rpm, I replaced the ignition with MSD type self contained distributor and coil and the engine easily ran to 7000rpm and made 40hp more. It wen tfrom 190hp rear wheel hp to 235.
I see a bunch of bad pertronix and the new cheap HEI are just horrible. Stay away from either.
