Get the points distributor for your engine, if they offered a iron unit get that. Set it up for 28 to 32 dwell. Leave the condenser in there but disconnect it. If the CD box ever quits all you need to do is connect up the condenser and go on points only.
Pick up a Vertex Z-6 or a MSD6AL, don't use the digital get the older MSD. Or use the Mallory or Accell. I like that Vertex unit though. I heard from a few people that the vertex is a very well made unit..
Just follow the directions. Use the coil positive lead but disconnect the resister.
Use carbon core wires and gap the plugs at .035..

This really works well!! I just tried this..

I'm also going to try using both sets of points in the dual point distributor connected to a three way switch. I'll connect each set of points to each of the traveler terminals then connect the three ways common terminal to the negative terminal at the coil.
This should allow me to add or take away about 4 to 6 degrees of timing with the flick of the switch..

I like all the cool things you can do with the points ignition.. I only wish I could use the copper core Packard 440 spark plug wire but all's well, can't have everything.. I'll have to research what wires I want to use.. Accel and Taylor used to be considered real good wires but that was 10 years ago.. Anybody have any black carbon core wire recommendations?

Converted an old Ford Ford wrecker with a 351 M motor to Pertronix . It ran 17 years hauling cars almost every day until the Govt replaced it and it got sold at auction. Always started right away and would set and idle in the hot south Ga. summers and never quit.
