The Pertronix I use for my ARDUN has been working perfectly for over eight years heck been across America and back in VERY hot weather no issues at all. Have another Pertronix conversion in my flathead Ford powered Lakester works great so far over 165MPH in the standing mile. Found the Pertronix will rev to VERY high RPM with no prblems at all. Great product great tech guys. No extra parts needed like with MSD. Ronnieroadster
I have installed one in my flat head and I also installed the .6 ohm flame thrower coil , it's a 6volt system , car fires right up and runs nicely then shuts down , starts right up again then shuts down after 45 sec. Any idea what the problem can be. I jumped ballast , have a good ground and have good connection on ignition wire . Any help is appreciated. Thanks bill
I have had one in my '57 for over 20 years! (yes I said over 20 years!) and has worked very well. Now that I have said that it will probably die LOL. I followed the instructions to the letter, maybe that's why it works so well! KK
Seems the most reliable is the basic petronics 1 with a stock 12 v coil. At least that's my experiance.
I was trying to decide on a 6 Volt Petronix. My concerns stemmed from Paul Garagan's posts. (rumbleseat deceased) I followed his posts on Ford Barn for years. He was very very mechanically adept. He tried to make the 6 Volt unit work and couldn't. I believe he had 3 units fail. Paul was the "Smokey" of flatheads. I expressed my concerns to Petronix and didn't like the answers. I'm from the South so don't piss down my leg and tell me it's raining! What I had hoped to hear was, "we did have some early failures with the 6 volt units... we have since corrected" But what I got was essentially no problem, never been a problem can't help you more than that. Disapointed! g
